At the Meximou Mansion<\/strong>, Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Emanuel Macron<\/strong>, after their joint presence on the frigate “Kimon<\/strong>” in Piraeus<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

This visit was highly symbolic, as it is linked to the close cooperation between the two countries in the field of defence.<\/p>\n

The two leaders will attend the signing of the renewed Strategic Relationship Agreement<\/strong> on security<\/strong> and defense<\/strong>, originally concluded in 2021. The agreement includes the well-known mutual defense assistance clause<\/strong>, which is triggered in the event of a threat to the sovereignty of either state.<\/p>\n

The signing will be undertaken on the Greek side by ministers Giorgos Gerapetritis<\/strong> and Nikos Dendias<\/strong>. The French side will be joined by Benjamin Haddad<\/strong>, responsible for European affairs, and the Armed Forces<\/strong> minister.<\/p>\n

The agreement is being renewed as it was nearing the end of its five-year term. It now provides for automatic renewal every five years unless either party chooses to terminate it.<\/p>\n

In parallel, new partnerships are also being launched in the areas of education<\/strong> and innovation<\/strong>. In the field of research, the two sides are expected to enter into a memorandum of understanding on the development of small modular reactors (SMR)<\/strong>, further strengthening bilateral cooperation.<\/p>\n
