{"id":2531,"date":"2026-04-25T14:54:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-25T11:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=2531"},"modified":"2026-04-25T14:54:00","modified_gmt":"2026-04-25T11:54:00","slug":"nikitas-kaklamanis-from-ny-the-greek-community-is-the-most-powerful-and-sincere-ambassador-of-greece-abroad-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=2531","title":{"rendered":"Nikitas Kaklamanis from NY: The Greek community is the most powerful and sincere ambassador of Greece abroad (photos)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"355\">In an atmosphere of <strong data-start=\"9\" data-end=\"30\">deep emotion<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"35\" data-end=\"55\">national uplift<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"77\" data-end=\"90\">New York<\/strong> the meeting of the President of the <strong data-start=\"120\" data-end=\"142\">Hellenic Parliament<\/strong>, Nikita Kaklamanis, with His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America. <\/p>\n<p data-end=\"355\" data-start=\"0\">This meeting took place at the headquarters of the Holy Archdiocese, as part of the <strong data-start=\"243\" data-end=\"269\">celebrations<\/strong> for the <strong data-start=\"278\" data-end=\"301\">National War of Independence<\/strong> and the traditional <strong data-start=\"322\" data-end=\"334\">parade<\/strong> on <b>5th Avenue<\/b> and was a resounding reminder of the <strong data-start=\"470\" data-end=\"494\">extreme unity<\/strong> between the <strong data-start=\"506\" data-end=\"527\">Greek state<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"533\" data-end=\"546\">Church<\/strong> and the <strong data-start=\"555\" data-end=\"578\">patriotic Hellenism<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"583\" data-end=\"1063\">During their conversation, Nikitas Kaklamanis conveyed the <strong data-start=\"653\" data-end=\"668\">gratitude<\/strong> of the Hellenic Parliament to the <strong data-start=\"701\" data-end=\"714\">Hellenes<\/strong>, characterizing it as &#8220;the most powerful and sincere ambassador of Greece abroad&#8221;. Particular emphasis was placed on the <strong data-start=\"835\" data-end=\"854\">Cyprus issue<\/strong>, with the Speaker of the Parliament underlining the need for the <strong data-start=\"911\" data-end=\"932\">international community<\/strong> to show the same sensitivity that it shows in contemporary crises (<strong data-start=\"1000\" data-end=\"1012\">Ukraine<\/strong>) and for the <strong data-start=\"1026\" data-end=\"1062\">50-year illegal occupation of Cyprus<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<figure> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tomanifesto.cachefly.net\/tomanifesto\/images\/placeholder.png\" alt=\"nikitas-kaklamanis-elpidophoros4.jpg\" data-dpc-media-id=\"186938\" class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/tomanifesto.cachefly.net\/image\/large\/94\/nikitas-kaklamanis-elpidophoros4.jpg\"> <\/figure>\n<p data-start=\"1072\" data-end=\"1432\"> &#8220;Greece and the Greek people remain on the right side of history, claiming <strong data-start=\"1156\" data-end=\"1166\">justice<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1175\" data-end=\"1188\">freedom<\/strong> but I don&#8217;t think it is right that the civilized <strong data-start=\"1240\" data-end=\"1258\">Western world<\/strong>, for 50 years now, to pretend not to see or hear that another occupying army is holding a country of the <strong data-start=\"1370\" data-end=\"1391\">European Union<\/strong> cut in two,&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n<figure> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tomanifesto.cachefly.net\/tomanifesto\/images\/placeholder.png\" alt=\"nikitas-kaklamanis-elpidophoros15.jpg\" data-dpc-media-id=\"186939\" class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/tomanifesto.cachefly.net\/image\/large\/94\/nikitas-kaklamanis-elpidophoros15.jpg\"> <\/figure>\n<p data-start=\"1436\" data-end=\"1836\"> From his side, Archbishop Elpidophoros praised the role of the Homogeny as a force <strong data-start=\"1529\" data-end=\"1545\">active<\/strong> and dedicated to the ideals of <strong data-start=\"1578\" data-end=\"1593\">democracy<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1602\" data-end=\"1616\">liberty<\/strong>. He referred to the overwhelming <strong data-start=\"1647\" data-end=\"1662\">pride<\/strong> shown by the new generations of <strong data-start=\"1695\" data-end=\"1715\">Greek Americans<\/strong>, who, despite the distance and the passage of decades, keep the flame of their <strong data-start=\"1807\" data-end=\"1830\">Greek origin<\/strong> unquenched. <\/p>\n<figure> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tomanifesto.cachefly.net\/tomanifesto\/images\/placeholder.png\" alt=\"stnicholas-parade-do-38445-1024x576.jpg\" data-dpc-media-id=\"186940\" class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/tomanifesto.cachefly.net\/image\/large\/94\/stnicholas-parade-do-38445-1024x576.jpg\"> <\/figure>\n<p data-start=\"1840\" data-end=\"1993\"> This year&#8217;s visit of Mr. Kaklamani &#8211; the first Speaker of the Parliament in 18 years to the <strong data-start=\"1928\" data-end=\"1935\">US<\/strong> &#8211; coincided with a historic occasion of <strong data-start=\"1971\" data-end=\"1992\">tremendous celebration<\/strong>: <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2002\" data-end=\"2053\">The <strong data-start=\"2006\" data-end=\"2022\">205th anniversary<\/strong> of the <strong data-start=\"2027\" data-end=\"2052\">Hellenic Revolution<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2057\" data-end=\"2116\">The <strong data-start=\"2060\" data-end=\"2074\">200 years<\/strong> since the heroic <strong data-start=\"2090\" data-end=\"2115\">Exodus of Messolonghi<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2120\" data-end=\"2174\">The <strong data-start=\"2123\" data-end=\"2137\">250 years<\/strong> since the <strong data-start=\"2146\" data-end=\"2173\">American Independence<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2183\" data-end=\"2643\">&#8220;That was the first reason for my visit. But the second was your own urging, Your Eminence, for me to be present,&#8221; the Speaker said. He also noted that the presence of the Greek <strong data-start=\"2402\" data-end=\"2437\">parliamentary delegation<\/strong> marks the commitment of the <strong data-start=\"2466\" data-end=\"2479\">State<\/strong> to always stand by the Greeks of America &#8220;who are annihilating the 8.000 miles of distance with Greece, with their <strong data-start=\"2606\" data-end=\"2615\">love<\/strong> and their <strong data-start=\"2624\" data-end=\"2636\">offering<\/strong>&#8220;. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2652\" data-end=\"2833\">The meeting concluded with the exchange of <strong data-start=\"2694\" data-end=\"2703\">welcomes<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"2708\" data-end=\"2717\">gifts<\/strong>, with Mr. N. Kaklamanis inviting the Archbishop to <strong data-start=\"2777\" data-end=\"2786\">Athens<\/strong> for an official reception at the Greek Parliament. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2842\" data-end=\"3165\">Earlier, the Speaker of the Parliament had visited in <strong data-start=\"2895\" data-end=\"2906\">Astoria<\/strong>, the Greek school of <strong data-start=\"2932\" data-end=\"2951\">Agios Dimitrios<\/strong> (primary, secondary and high school), which has 378 children, where, in an atmosphere of intense emotion, he was given a tour of the premises by the director, <strong data-start=\"3102\" data-end=\"3119\">Vassilis Skordas<\/strong>, and had talks with pupils. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3174\" data-end=\"3478\">The President of the Parliament attended the <strong data-start=\"3209\" data-end=\"3222\">praise<\/strong>, which took place at the church of <strong data-start=\"3250\" data-end=\"3268\">Agios Nikolaos<\/strong>, located at <strong data-start=\"3288\" data-end=\"3318\">Ground Zero<\/strong>, considered a &#8220;national pilgrimage site&#8221; for the United States and a symbol of the <strong data-start=\"3381\" data-end=\"3414\">Greek Orthodox presence<\/strong> reborn from the ashes of <strong data-start=\"3457\" data-end=\"3477\">September 11<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3487\" data-end=\"3962\">Then he was present at the <strong data-start=\"3528\" data-end=\"3561\">raising of the Greek flag<\/strong> in the historic <strong data-start=\"3581\" data-end=\"3598\">Bowling Green<\/strong> park on <strong data-start=\"3603\" data-end=\"3618\">Wall Street<\/strong>. The event, which he attended along with a large number of expatriates and which is of particular importance, since it takes place in the presence of a <strong data-start=\"3758\" data-end=\"3790\">Presidential Guard (Euzonon)<\/strong>, symbolizes the strong presence and economic influence of <strong data-start=\"3854\" data-end=\"3868\">Hellenism<\/strong> in the financial center of the world and is a precursor to the big parade on 5th Avenue. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3971\" data-end=\"4716\">&#8220;The Greek Parliament bows before you tonight. And is grateful to you for what you have done, for what you are doing and for what you will do for our Motherland, our Greece. A few days ago I turned 80 years old. I did not expect that today would be the most touching moment of my 80 years, gazing here in the heart of New York City on one side at our national symbol, our <strong data-start=\"4338\" data-end=\"4348\">flag<\/strong> on one end and next to it being the flag of your second homeland, America. And just beyond that, the flag of our <strong data-start=\"4470\" data-end=\"4480\">Cyprus<\/strong>, the only state in Europe that has an occupying army and keeps it divided in two to this day.
