The fact that the Tour is now a member of AIOCC, the World Association of Cycling Organizers, is not a formal distinction; it is the clearest indication that the event has already moved on to another track.

This year’s PPC Tour of Hellas isn’t just asking for attention. It’s earning it. With 20 teams, of which 18 are professional, with 120 athletes from around the world, with 5 race days and a 863.8km route that connects Epirus, Western Greece, Sterea Greece, Thessaly and Attica, the race is building an experience with a clear racing architecture, high organisational demands and a strong international footprint. We are not talking about a local sporting celebration with international ambitions.

We’re talking about a professional stage race that works with the logic of the Grand Tours: day-to-day strategy, a battle for the general classification, sprints, mountains, jerseys, attrition and a climax.

The PPC Tour of Hellas is not trying to “resemble” a Tour de France or Giro d’Italia in terms of size. But it consistently approaches their professional logic: pure structure, intensity, international interest, high level of participation, activation of local communities, an opportunity for celebration wherever it passes, advertising of cycling culture and continuous upgrading. That’s why this year’s event has more than ever a “big stage” feel.

The Organizing Committee of the Ministry of Sport Cycling Greece is not only responsible for the organization of this great international event, but also organizes the whole of Greece for educational activities for children, with – what else – cycling at the center! Under the auspices of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, the PPC Tour Of Hellas aspires to become one of the most sought-after UCI cycling races in Europe! And it seems to succeed!

Six ProTeams raising the bar

The big news on the racing leg is obvious: there will be 6 UCI ProTeams on the start line, which in itself raises the quality, prestige and difficulty of the race. Standing out in this year’s line-up are Unibet Rose Rockets, Burgos-Burpellet-BH, Solution Tech Nippo Rali, Team Novo Nordisk, Euskaltel-Euskadi and MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort – six teams with different histories, different racing styles and a common denominator of high professional level.

From the Basque aura of Euskaltel-Euskadi to the Greek interest around Burgos-Burpellet-BH and from the distinct identity of Team Novo Nordisk to the dynamics of Solution Tech Nippo Rali and Unibet Rose Rockets, the peloton is getting a decidedly “heavier” racing depth this year.

And behind the ProTeams, a Continental scene that’s “boiling”

But just as important is what’s happening right underneath: the event’s 12 UCI Continental teams are not just supplementary entries. They are a key part of the PPC Tour of Hellas 2026’s racing identity, because they add depth, aggression and constant pressure to the flow of the race. Gazzetta notes that the Continental teams “give racing glamour to the Tour”, while underlining that their presence confirms the purely professional nature of the event.

And herein lies another essential indication of the rise of the institution: the interest from Continental teams was so intense this year that the demand for a place in the race line-up exceeded the usual level of competition as the organisation was “forced” to reject 12 more applications from Continental teams who wanted to start in our race. In other words, the PPC Tour of Hellas is no longer a race that teams “try out” for. It is a race in which they want to be present.

A Tour that stretches across the country

This year’s route does what great events do: it doesn’t limit itself to the athlete, but also tells the story of the country hosting the race. From Ioannina and the official presentation of the teams at the lake, to Agrinio, Karpenisi, Larissa, Volos, Lamia, Atalanta, Parnitha, Piraeus and Syntagma, the Tour turns Greece into an open stage for a large-scale sports television production. In total, it activates 5 Regions (Attica, Western Greece, Sterea, Thessaly, Epirus), 44 Municipalities and brings the spectacle to 108 towns and villages.

The racing arc of this year’s edition is exciting in its own right: the Ioannina – Agrinioopens the curtain, the Karpenisi – Larissa puts riders to the test early, the Volos – Lamia serves as the “royal stage” with 4.216 m. in elevation, the Atalanti – Acharnes (Parnitha) promises one of the most spectacular finishes of the race, and the Piraeus – Athens (Syntagma)seals the event with a final image that has now established itself as the most iconic closing shot of the Greek Tour. Rightly so, the Region of Attica has its due as the final stage covers a large part of its territory.

International promotion is no longer a goal. It is a reality.

The reputation of the PPC Tour of Hellas is no longer a nice promise. It is measurable. According to the figures presented for 2025,the event recorded 8.3 million euros in total media value, with more than 1,200 TV spots and reports, more than 3,800 online articles and a noticeable increase in sponsorship and institutional revenues. At the same time, the international visibility of the event extends to 140 countries, an element that clearly places it in a different category from what we have known so far for similar Greek sporting events.

This year, in fact, this dynamic is taking on a new level. For the first time ever, the PPC Tour of Hellas is getting such strong live television coverage from ERT,with a daily 150 minutes of live coverage on ERT2 and the entire race available via ERTFLIX. Meanwhile, international interest in live coverage has already surpassed 15 international media outlets, confirming that this year’s edition is not just following the international trend; it is beginning to meet it.

The prize that doesn’t just symbolise victory

In an event that is so consciously building its identity, it’s no coincidence that the prize has depth too. The wheel, with its representation of the Centaurs, serves as more than just a winner’s trophy. It is a symbol of strength, harmony and balance – three values directly linked both to cycling and to the spirit of the Tour itself. At the same time, it connects the event to the Greek myth, the land that hosts it and especially to Pelion, reinforcing that precious sense that the PPC Tour of Hellas does not copy foreign models, but builds its own, recognizable narrative.

More than a race: city experience, country experience

This is perhaps the most essential step in the maturation of the PPC Tour of Hellas: it is not only an elite sporting event, but also a public experience. Through the DEP Fan Zones, the Mini Side Events, the educational activities in schools and local activations, the race appeals not only to cycling fans but also to families, children, residents and visitors. It promotes cycling as a means of sustainable mobility, talks about road safety, brings sport to the squares and creates a participatory environment around each stage.

And this year, this sense of great celebration is being added to by the artistic programme. From Andromachi in Ioannina and Lamia, Alexandra Bounatsas in Agrinio and Evagelia in Larissa, to the closing event on May 10 at Syntagma with Stavento, Ivi Adamou, Evaggelia, Kira May Cry, DJ Nikos Margoglou and Maria Fragaki, the PPC Tour of Hellas 2026 confirms that it wants to be not only a race, but a full event. An event that combines professional sport with music, city experience and public participation.

The PPC Tour of Hellas 2026 is no longer “a very good Greek effort”. It is a project with a clear international footprint, growing demand, institutional depth, a strong TV image, a professional peloton and a clear perspective. Simply put: Greece is not just hosting a cycling race. It is hosting an institution that is steadily claiming its place in the“Champions League” of world cycling.

Artistic programme per station of the event

May 5 | Ioannina
Andromathi

6 6 May | Agrinio
Alexandra Bounatsa

May 7 | Larissa
Evaggelia

May 8 | Lamia
Andromachi

10 May | Athens – Syntagma Square
Stavento
Ivi Adamou
Evaggelia
Kira May Cry
DJ Nikos Margoglou
Maria Fragaki

Programme of the Race – Mini Side Events & PPC Fan Zones

Monday 4 May | Ioannina
Start of Parallel Events: Mavili Square (10:00-14:30 & 17:00-19:00)

Tuesday 5 May | Ioannina
17:30: Official Team Presentation (Lake Ioannina)
DEH Fan Zone: Mavili Square (10:00-17:00)

Wednesday 6 May | 1st Stage: Ioannina – Agrinio (171,6 km.)
Mini Side Event Ioannina – Pl.
