The political positions of Laura Covesi were commented on by Makis Voridis <\/b> speaking on SKAI television. <\/p>\n

The MEP<\/b> of New Democracy called it impressive<\/b>, saying that “we are not used to this in Greece” and stressed that it reveals “something about Ms. Covesi.”<\/p>\n

The reason for Mr. Voridis’ comments were prompted by what the European Public Prosecutor<\/b> said at the 11th Delphi Economic Forum<\/b> last week.<\/p>\n

“All I want to say is this. It is striking that the Attorney General is starting to make political statements. <\/b>We are not used to this. But this reveals something about Ms. Covesi and the way she perceives her role. Primarily she understands her role as a political catalyst rather than a prosecutor<\/strong> whose goal is to prosecute. It is the agenda she sets because under the pretext<\/b> and on the occasion of tackling corruption,<\/b> political posturing is being done,” the former minister said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Explanations demanded<\/h3>\n

Makis Voridis, stressing once again that he had not heard legal discussion but only political statements,<\/b> asked for explanations, stressing: “I want a legal person to explain to me how the transmission of a citizen’s request is a criminal act<\/b>,” he added: “I have meetings in my office after here with citizens of East Attica<\/b> who will raise issues of concern to me. So I want to say, one approach is this, that I will ask my question in Parliament. But, you know, the fact that we often try to get a fast track on this, if Ms. Covesi comes and tells me that this is not rational<\/b>, rationality you know has some moments that are extremely unhelpful.”<\/p>\n

“Half of her positions have political characteristics<\/b>,” Voridis stressed once again at another point in the debate, adding that: “I find it absolutely unacceptable for someone to tell me that I have moral incitement<\/b>, that is, with persuasion and formality I persuaded an administrative body to do an illegal act because I forwarded a request from a citizen.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
