Justice Minister Giorgos Florides publicly commented on the developments in the wiretapping case, while responding to the reactions of the ruling opposition<\/b> and setting clear boundaries between legitimate criticism and total questioning of the institutions.<\/p>\n
Talking to the SKAI 100.3 radio station, he stressed that criticism of Justice is acceptable in the context of democracy, but cannot reach the point of total devaluation of the institution. As he said,Justice is a key pillar of the democratic constitution and questioning it creates broader issues for the functioning of democracy.<\/b><\/p>\n
The minister stressed emphatically that “justice is not as it suits us. It is one and unified,” noting that the opposition’s attitude towards judicial institutions raises concerns. According to him, when a party with an institutional role chooses to treat the judiciary in such a way, then a question of democratic functioning arises.<\/p>\n
Referring to political developments, Mr. Florides commented that the president of PASOK<\/b>, Nikos Androulakis,<\/b> is under pressure from the leader of the opposition Alexis Tsipras, which – as he assessed – leads him to nervousness, which may have a political cost.<\/p>\n
At the same time, the minister attempted to clarify issues concerning the institutional status of judicial officials. As he explained, if a primary judge, even with limited experience, is considered an institution, then the same applies to the country’s top prosecutor, who has many years of experience and has been selected by the majority of judges and prosecutors.<\/p>\n
Finally, Florides clarified that the possibility of reviewing a case always remains open if new evidence emerges. As he said, at any stage<\/b> – either during the proceedings or outside them – if there are facts that warrant a new investigation, it is the competent authorities who will take the responsibility to move institutionally.<\/b><\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
