Announcement regarding the incident<\/b> of shots fired <\/b>that occurred at the Protodicourt of Athens<\/b>, where the gunman stormed in causing the injury of four court officials<\/b>, the Judges and prosecutors.<\/b><\/p>\n
In a statement, the Union of Judges and Prosecutors<\/strong> stresses that the incident highlighted “in the worst possible way” the lack of appropriate protection measures<\/strong> for court officials, officials, lawyers and citizens who are in the courts every day.<\/p>\n The Union recalls that it had been warned<\/b> a few months<\/b> ago about the introduction of a gun<\/b> into the Secondary<\/strong> Courts, noting that, despite the warnings, the premises remain effectively unguarded<\/b>, exposing all those involved in the operation of the Justice<\/b>.<\/p>\n Today’s unprecedented attack by an armed man inside the judicial building<\/strong> of the Athens Court of First Instance on Loukareos Street (formerly the Justice of Peace Court) with 4 injured judicial employees as victims, demonstrated in the worst possible way the absence of adequate security measures for the protection of court officials, judicial officers, lawyers and the public that is daily in the area of the Courts. Following our previous communication on the introduction of a gun into the Evelpidon Courts a few months ago, we note with bitterness, which has already cost the physical integrity and endangered the lives of judicial officials in the performance of their duties, that the premises of the Courts remain virtually unguarded, putting all the actors of the Judiciary at risk.<\/em><\/p>\n We really don’t know what else the State is waiting for to happen to take responsibility! The Association of Judges and Prosecutors is sounding the alarm for the umpteenth time.
