The importance of the positions of the President of France, Emanuel Macron<\/b>, on the security of Cyprus<\/b>, is underlined by the President of DISY Anita Demetriou<\/b>.<\/b><\/p>\n
As she notes in a message, “the clear and strong positions of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, highlight in the clearest way that the security of the Republic of Cyprus is a European priority.<\/p>\n
Together with the forthcoming signing of the SOFA<\/b> agreement in June, as well as the intensification of the discussion on the activation of the reciprocal clause defence of the EU<\/b>, a more robust security framework for our country is taking shape.”<\/p>\n
She notes that “these developments are far from being conjunctural. They are a continuation and confirmation of a timeless strategy, which was set by the founder of our party, Glafkos Clerides<\/b>: that Cyprus’ security is ensured through its deep integration into European and Western structures and through strong strategic alliances.<\/b><\/p>\n
The Democratic Rally has been and remains the constant exponent of this policy. A policy that enhances Cyprus’ geostrategic role, upgrades its international position and creates real conditions of deterrence and security.<\/p>\n
In an unstable geopolitical environment, Cyprus cannot proceed with illusions or isolationism. It must invest in alliances, credibility and institutional strength.<\/p>\n
This is the course that has been charted.<\/b><\/p>\n
This is the course that is paying off.<\/b><\/p>\n
This is the course that is rightly being pursued and we must continue with consistency and responsibility, far from logical toxicity and populism.”<\/b><\/p>\n
