Premier Kyriakos Mitsotakis<\/b> on 11.00<\/b> will speak<\/b> at the inauguration of the branch of the University of Nicosia<\/b> in Athens<\/b>, at the Hellenic.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/p>\nMitsotakis at the Council of Ministers: No to the muck and toxicity of the opposition<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/p>\n
During his introduction<\/b> to the Council of Ministers<\/b>, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis<\/b> placed particular emphasis on strengthening the role of deputies<\/b>.<\/p>\n
During his introductory statement to the Ministerial Council,<\/b> the Prime Minister stressed that strengthening the participation of MPs is a key option of the government<\/b> for the upgrading of the role<\/b> of the elected representative of each region.<\/p>\n
As he said, the already active participation of MPs <\/b>in consultations<\/b> – such as those on mountainous areas and insularity – points the way to a more substantial involvement in policy design, especially on issues related to the development of local communities.<\/p>\n
He even raised as a central issue<\/b> the contribution of MPs “in how they can fight for the development and prosperity of their region”, linking their role to the formulation and maturation of specific policy initiatives.<\/p>\n
At the same time, he reiterated the distinction between the executive and the legislature<\/b>, clarifying that the “executive state” is exclusively for the government. He stressed that the roles are constitutionally enshrined and distinct, underlining, however, that cooperation between the government and parliamentarians becomes particularly important in critical policy areas.<\/p>\n
In the same context, he noted that close cooperation with members of parliament<\/b> can enhance the effectiveness of government planning, emphasising the production of tangible results.<\/p>\nImplications for the opposition<\/h3>\n
The prime minister did not let the heated political debate go unheeded, indirectly responding to the statements of Nikos Androulakis,<\/b> who had earlier unleashed serious characterizations.<\/b><\/p>\n
Without naming him, he spoke of “odious rhetoric”<\/b> that he said was drawn from toxic internet templates, noting that public debate was sliding to dangerous levels.<\/b><\/p>\n
He also referred to the personal attacks he said he has received, as well as the characterizations against the government and New Democracy<\/b>, noting that such expressions foster division and tension.<\/p>\n
At the same time, he expressed concern<\/b> about the overall attitude of part of the opposition<\/b>, calling it a “downward spiral of toxicity” affecting the political climate.<\/p>\n
He made it clear, however, that the government will not<\/b> follow this line. “The country does not need such a quagmire,” he said, noting that the answer would be through government work and not through aggravation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
