He spoke of parastatism, of a violation of the rule of law, of the need to fight back against democracy. In fact, at that time, at the “Andreas Papandreou” Closed Gymnasium in Peristeri, he was posing the dilemma “with democracy or deflection”, calling, as he said, on the people themselves to answer at the ballot box.

Fast forward a few years later, Nikos Androulakis is preparing for a motion of no confidence, he will file a request for an Investigative Committee, essentially copying Tsipras’ strategy, which of course led Syriza to a heavy political defeat, proving that citizens are not easily convinced by polarizing schemes when they are not accompanied by a convincing government proposal.

But three years later, Nikos Androulakis is walking on a path that probably leads him down paths that his political mentor, A. Tsipras, has walked, at least as evidenced by reality itself. With almost identical rhetoric, he speaks of “diversion”, of a threat to democracy, of the need for civil society to take a stand. He states that PASOK is calling for an investigation and not a conviction, but at the same time he adopts a rhetoric of conflict, saying that “Mr Mitsotakis is dangerous and must go in order for the country and democracy to breathe”.

The copying is almost… existential: first, it elevates a judicial issue to a central political stake; second, it articulates a divisive-toxic dilemma; and third, it gives dangerous political forces a foothold to challenge the judiciary and – most importantly – its decisions, whenever they don’t suit him, of course. In other words, N. Androulakis wears the suit (with tie) of A. Tsipras of 2023. Only that this suit has already been judged politically and of course the citizens have judged it… old-fashioned.

The problem for the PASOK president is twofold. On the one hand, he appears to adopt a losing strategy. On the other hand, he has difficulty convincing himself that he is expressing something new, autonomous and different. Moreover, as experienced political observers underline, a party that claims to be a serious alternative to the New Democracy of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, cannot recycle the -outdated- slogans of SYRIZA, nor reproduce the same policies that citizens rejected. Indeed, it is interesting that like A. Tsipras, he occasionally denounces exclusion from media outlets which, he claims, operate under the influence of Megaro Maximou. However, it seems that from certain media he receives communication support and a natural (and correct) platform to express his views, despite the fact that the (polling) needle remains stuck.

The irony, however, is that Androulakis is attempting – in his recent TV appearances – to present himself as a defender of the rule of law, while he himself is essentially questioning the decisions of the judiciary because he doesn’t like them. It is typical that this is done by the political leader who was celebrating a decision of the Single Judge’s Court of Appeal, but now that the Supreme Court prosecutor’s decision is not to his liking, he has climbed the railing of populism, selectively denouncing the judiciary. He even did not hesitate to declare, yesterday, on Mega that “I evaluate the decisions of the judiciary, because those who judge are also judged”, and wondered “if I personally attacked someone and organised his character assassination through the media?” apparently unaware… that every day he does nothing but attack the judiciary in a stinging manner. And in this way, “like for like finds its full political application. A. Tsipras of 2023 and N. Androulakis of 2026 meet in the same slogan, in the same strategy and in the same logic of toxicity.

Nikos Androulakis is turning into a cacotype of Alexis Tsipras, following a strategy that has been tried, failed and finally… disapproved…

[3

post-3275","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-politics
["GET
