The European Parliament member of the New Democracy<\/b>, Giorgos Avtias<\/b>, is raising the tone of the political debate.Speaking on Politica 89.8 radio, Giorgos Avtias<\/b> left clear points both for Alexis Tsipras<\/b> and for the developments in Greece-Turkey<\/b>.<\/p>\n
Jiorgos Avtias<\/b> spoke to Crete’s Politica 89.8 radio and the show “Ola Mazi” with Nikos Tsilipounidakis and even invited Alexis Tsipras, Euclid Tsakalotos and Yanis Varoufakis in a televised debate<\/b>, calling on them – as he said – “to stop lying about the economy<\/b>“. At the same time, he urged them to answer publicly “which tax did Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ government impose?”, attempting to move the debate to the realm of economic policy.<\/p>\n
In a scathing tone, Avtias commented on the movements in the centre-left as a whole, raising direct questions about the former prime minister’s role and aspirations. “Who is Tsipras after all? A or B?<\/b>” he said, suggesting that there is a double political line and contradictory messages<\/b>. At the same time, with references to public appearances and contacts, such as those with Nikos Farantouris and Yannis Maniati, he left spikes for political ferment and possible collusion behind the scenes.<\/p>\n
On the European level<\/b>, the ND MEP sent a clear message to Turkey<\/b>, raising the issue of immediate economic consequences<\/b> in case of continuation of threats against Greece<\/b>. Speaking at the European Parliament’s plenary session on the European Union’s 2028-2034 multiannual budget, he stressed that “every day that Turkey threatens Greece, money that was intended for Greece<\/b> will be cut back.”<\/p>\n
His intervention is along the lines of a stronger stance within the EU. towards Ankara<\/b>, while on the domestic front it is expected to spark a new round of political confrontation, especially after his sharp references to the former prime minister.<\/p>\n
