The day of flowers, but also a symbol of labour struggles, Protomaya<\/b>, is commemorated and celebrated by many municipalities of Attica, with a series of events<\/b>, which in many cases are spread over the whole three-day period.<\/p>\n
At the Platonos Academy Park the municipality of Athens is inviting people to the Athens Urban Picnic, which marks the start of the festival, with more than 350 free events in May across the city.<\/p>\n
From 12 noon on May Day until 8 p.m., young and old alike will spread their mats on the grass and enjoy a day full of music and creative activities. City radio producers will set the pace with DJ sets,<\/b> in a program that includes creative workshops for kids, such as face painting and flower making, a bubble show and theatrical performance by Kids Radio, an interactive “DJ Chef” workshop combining music and cooking, open wellness activities such as running and nature training sessions, and a Kids Radio Banda concert.<\/p>\n
For another year, the municipality of Kaisariani and the municipality of Haidari will celebrate May Day together, with a program of events, called “May Days of the World”, which will last until May 10.<\/p>\n
In fact, this year’s events coincide with the recent release of photographic material of the 200 patriots who were imprisoned at Camp Haidari<\/b> and executed by the German occupation forces at the Kaisariani Shooting Range on May Day 1944, as well as the 140th anniversary of May Day in Chicago.<\/p>\n
The culmination of the events will take place on Sunday (3\/5), where in cooperation with the Labour Centres of Athens and Piraeus, the Labour People’s Road Race from Haidari to Kaisariani has been planned, under the name “For the 200 executed in Kaisariani” and with the motto “We keep their sacrifice alive, walking in the footsteps of history”.<\/p>\n
The start will be given at 7:30 in the morning from Block 15 in Haidari and the finish at the Shooting Range of Kaisariani, while at the same time the torch relay organized by the two municipalities will start from the gate of the Camp and will also finish at the “Altar of Leftheria”.<\/p>\n
This is the route that the boats took when they transported the 200 from Haidari to Kaisariani. The runners will move strictly on the right side of the road throughout the entire route, which will follow the streets Fludzi – Agoniston Stratopedou Haidari – Iera Odos – Pireos – Ermou – Asomaton – Apostolou Pavlou – Dionysiou Areopagitou – Vassilissis Amalias Avenue – Vassilissis Olga Avenue – King Constantine Avenue – King Alexander Avenue – Gregory Theologian – National Resistance Avenue – Nea Ephesus – Pelopsos – Shooting Range.<\/p>\n
The race is open to those who have turned 18 years of age and prizes will be awarded to the first three men and the first three women, while all finishers will be awarded commemorative medals.<\/p>\n
Beyond that, always as part of the joint May Day events, the two municipalities have scheduled:<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, May 5 (19:00) at the junction of Vryoulon & John Kennedy Streets<\/b>, an event to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of the “Mother of Kaisariani” Eftichia Muriki and the renaming of the street “John Kennedy” to “Eftichia Muriki (Mother of ELAS)”.<\/p>\n
On Friday 8 May (20:00) at the Town Hall Square in Haidari<\/b>, a concert by the band “Romiosini”.<\/p>\n
On Saturday 9 May, the “Soukatzidia 2026”,<\/b> dedicated to Napoleon Soukatzidis, who was among the 200 executed, will take place at the Skopitirio, with 4 km mountain race (09:00) and 1,000 m race for children (18:00). In the evening of the same day (20:00), a concert will be given entitled “1 May \/ 140 years \/ Chicago – Kaisariani”.<\/p>\n
In Haidari, also on Saturday (9\/5, 17:00) <\/b>there will be an event for the 200 executed in Block 15 and in Kaisariani the event will take place the next day (10\/5, 11:00), while earlier (9:30) a picket with the names of the 200 will start from the Old Town Hall. On Sunday evening (10\/5, 20:00) the film “The Last Note” by Pantelis Voulgaris will be screened at Block 15.<\/p>\n
It should be noted that from April 29 to May 6, the exhibition space of the Town Hall of Kaisariani will host the exhibition of paintings by Vasiliki Spyrou entitled “When you became a symbol in me”.<\/p>\n
The municipality of Agios Dimitrios in co-organization with the Flower Association, has planned today an all-day event for the “May Day Celebration in the city”, at Alekos Panagoulis Square,<\/b> with food and dancing. The programme also includes a Flower Show and May Day wreaths (09:00), activities for children (11:00-13:00), an animator and interactive games event (18:00) and a concert with traditional dances by the music and dance group of the Flower Association.<\/p>\n
The municipality of Glyfada <\/b>is distributing flowers today and in cooperation with the Greek Federation of Vehicles of the Era is organizing the 9th Exhibition of Vehicles of the Era. <\/b>More than 100 antique vehicles, beetles, military jeeps, and buses of the era will be on display from 10am to 2pm spread in a vertical arrangement around the pedestrian street of Lambraki. A concert with 48 ORES will start at 12.<\/p>\n
The municipality of Ilioupolis is organizing a Festival of Colors<\/b> at the central square (11:00-14:00). It includes activities such as a bouquet workshop, a candle\/wax melts workshop and lots of games for children. The highlight of the event will be the throwing of colours, where once the signal is given by the event’s presenter, hundreds of coloured powders will be launched into the air, creating a visual extravaganza, while the festival also includes a party with music by a DJ.<\/p>\n
The municipality of Nea Smyrni welcomes May with two concerts in the square<\/b> (starting at 20:00). On May Day with Nikos Portokaloglou and on Saturday with Pavlina Voulgaraki. Furthermore, on Saturday (2\/5) there will be a Children’s Painting Competition on the theme “Where Peace blooms” at the Municipal Multipurpose Space Galaxy (11:00-13:00). The competition is addressed to Kindergarten and Primary School children, the drawings will be evaluated by a committee and the winners will be awarded prizes.<\/p>\n
The municipality of Nea Filadelfia-Nea Chalkidona<\/b> celebrates May Day in a traditional and long-lasting way, and this year again organized a program of events focusing on the timeless reference point of this day, the Grove, where residents and visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy events, activities for children, outdoor activities and surprises until Sunday. At the same time, concerts have been scheduled at Patriarch Constantine Square, which started on Thursday (30\/4) with Thanos Olympios, Vassilis Patsios and the band The Good Fellas, and will continue today with Christos Cholidis (20:30) and Xenia Vera (22:40) and tomorrow with Lena Zeevgara (20:30).<\/p>\n
For children, today and tomorrow (1-2\/5) alternately at the Children’s Village of the Grove and at the Military Factory of Nea Chalkidona (12:00<\/b>), there will be the Doll Theatre performance “Beauty and the Beast” by the Kokou Muklo group and the Spiropoulos Shadow Theatre performance “Karagiozis’ May Day”.<\/p>\n
The municipality of Peania “starts” its activities from the morning of May Day<\/b> (11:00) with the action “We knit May”, where outside the historic chapel of Agia Triada young and old will make wreaths, taste doughnuts and dance with the dance groups of the local association. At 11:30 starting from the square of Vas. Konstantinos there will be a bicycle ride in the old village of Peania, at 13:00 the “Feast of the Magi”, with music and food in the square of the Association of Argithea, at 20:30 in the central square dances with traditional dance groups of the region and at 23:00 a concert with Nikos Apergi and Alexandra Panagiotarou.<\/p>\n
On Saturday (2\/5) in the central square again traditional dances<\/b> (20:00) and then a traditional feast with Miltos Filos, Anna Moroi and their orchestra (23:00). And on Sunday (3\/5) at the central square of Peania, from 11:30 to 15:30, activities for children, with creative workshops, chocolate workshops, wreath making, interactive and sports games, music and dance.<\/p>\n
The Municipality of Pallini and the Association of Residents of the Workers’ Houses of Pallini “The May Day”<\/b>, are co-organizing an event dedicated to the Labour Day, honoring the historical memory and the struggles of the workers, on Saturday (20:00), at the 1st of May Square. The event will include a historical reference to the importance of the Labour Day, with speeches, a documentary with historical events, a presentation by the traditional dance classes of the municipality of Pallini and a live music program at the end.<\/p>\n
The municipality of Filothei-Psychiko today in the Psychiko Grove organizes a spring celebration <\/b>for all ages with music, dance, games and keeping the custom, young and old will make a May Day wreath. There will also be a Magic Show by Hermes the Magician (11:00), a bouncy castle, face painting and creative workshops for children, singing by Angelos Andrianos (12:00) and traditional dances by the Lyceum of Hellenes. There will be booths with food, wine and sweets in the area.<\/p>\n
The municipality of Megareon held the local custom of “May” yesterday Thursday in the central square.<\/b><\/p>\n
