{"id":3529,"date":"2026-05-01T12:54:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-01T09:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=3529"},"modified":"2026-05-01T12:54:00","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T09:54:00","slug":"price-restraint-in-may-driven-by-ppc-subsidies-and-cap-on-liquid-fuels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=3529","title":{"rendered":"Price restraint in May driven by PPC, subsidies and cap on liquid fuels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The stability in <b>PEC&#8217;s tariffs<\/b> for May, announced on Thursday, reflects both the high penetration of <b>renewable sources<\/b> that has held down wholesale prices and the <b>discount policy of PPC and other suppliers<\/b> that will continue next month.<\/p>\n<p>The picture from the electricity market as a whole in recent months, despite the international crisis and rising gas prices, is that wholesale prices remain lower than in previous months. <\/p>\n<p>Specifically: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In April so far the average price has been 100 euros per megawatt hour.<\/li>\n<li>In March the price was 95 euros per megawatt hour.<\/li>\n<li>In the period October-January it fluctuated between 106 and 110 euros and last year in March it was 106 euros. Reasons for the price moderation are the increased participation of renewables in the energy mix, the favourable weather conditions of the season (high production from renewables and low demand) and the restraint of the majority of suppliers in setting their pricing policy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the retail level, the main development is the shift of consumers to fixed<\/b> (&#8220;blue&#8221;) tariffs, which was reinforced in 2025. <b>At the end of the year, according to official figures, more than 1.65 million meters<\/b> had joined fixed tariffs, compared to 867 thousand in January, ensuring protection against any appreciation trends<\/b> that might arise. <\/p>\n<p>The combination of the wholesale and retail picture is the reason why at present there is no question<b> of subsidising electricity bills,<\/b> as had been the case during the energy crisis when prices had reached much higher levels. <\/p>\n<p>In contrast, for liquid fuels, prices remain at high levels, as does the uncertainty about their formation in the near future as international prices are at four-year record levels. <b>The average nationwide price of unleaded, which exceeded 2.07 euros per litre in early April, is now hovering near 2 euros, while diesel, which had exceeded 2.1 euros per litre<\/b>, has fallen below 1.9 euros, helped by both the 20 cents per litre state subsidy that will continue in May and the cap on wholesale and retail profit margins. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The stability of PPC tariffs for May, announced on Thursday, reflects on the one hand the high penetration of renewable sources of energy, and on the other hand &#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":3530,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-3529","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-economy"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3529","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=3529"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3529\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media\/3530"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=3529"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=3529"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=3529"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
