The compulsory public holiday is Monday<\/b>, however, those businesses <\/b>that are legally operating on Sundays and public holidays,<\/b> such as those in the health, tourism, transport and continuous operation sectors, are exempt.<\/p>\n

Which shops are open<\/h3>\n

Supermarkets are also expected to remain closed and consumers are advised to stock up on what they need from Thursday 30 April. Specifically, the major supermarket chains (Sklavenitis, AB Vassilopoulos, MyMarket, Masoutis, Galaxy and Lidl) will be closed.<\/p>\n

However, some franchise stores, such as AB Shop & Go and MyMarket Local, as well as neighbourhood mini-markets<\/b> that traditionally operate on Sundays, are expected to remain open.<\/p>\n

Holiday: how workers are paid<\/h3>\n

The following applies to the pay status of workers who will be employed or remain on a holiday:<\/p>\n

For workers who are paid on a daily wage and are not employed on May 1, they are entitled to receive their paid daily wage without any increase.<\/b> For employees who are paid on a daily wage and will be employed on 1 May, they will receive their normally paid daily wage and a 75% supplement calculated on their statutory hourly wage for the number of hours worked.<\/p>\n

If employees are paid a monthly salary, if the business operates on Sundays and holidays they will only receive a 75%<\/b> surcharge calculated on their statutory hourly wage for the number of hours worked, whereas if it is a business that is late and operates on May 1, they will receive in addition to the 75%<\/b>(<\/i>on their statutory hourly wage) increment<\/b> and as many hours of the hourly wage paid for as many hours worked.<\/p>\n
