Trump’s decision<\/h3>\n

Donald Trump announced that starting next week the United States will increase tariffs on cars and trucks imported from the European Union, citing non-compliance with the trade deal.<\/p>\n

In a post, he disclosed that tariffs on vehicles imported from the European Union will be increased to 25 percent, claiming that the European side is not abiding by the terms of the agreement reached between the two sides.<\/p>\n

“I am pleased to announce that since the European Union is not abiding by our trade agreement, next week I will increase the tariffs imposed on the European Union on cars and trucks entering the United States. The tariff will increase to 25 percent,” he said.<\/p>\n

He said the U.S. government takes it for granted that companies that choose to manufacture cars and trucks within the United States will not be subject to tariffs.<\/p>\n

He also spoke of significant investment in the automotive sector, noting that projects are already underway to build new factories worth more than $100 billion, which he called an all-time record for the industry.<\/p>\n

According to him, the new production plants, which will be staffed by American workers, are expected to come on stream soon, and he argued that this development reflects the momentum of the US economy.<\/p>\n

EU reaction<\/h3>\n

US President Donald Trump’s announcement of increased tariffs on cars from the EU shows that the US is an unreliable trading partner, Bernd Lange, chairman of the European Parliament’s International Trade Committee, said today.<\/p>\n

“This latest move shows how unreliable the US side is,” Lange said. “This is no way to deal with close partners. Now we can only respond with maximum clarity and stability, using the strength of our position.”<\/p>\n

The U.S. president announced earlier that he would raise tariffs on cars and trucks from the European Union to 25 percent next week, accusing the EU of not honoring a trade deal between Washington and Brussels.<\/p>\n

Lange said Trump’s behavior was “unacceptable.” He said the EU was abiding by a framework trade deal reached with the US in Scotland last year, which imposed a 15% import tariff on most EU products, preventing a bigger trade war.<\/p>\n

The commission president said the US had repeatedly violated the agreement, “for example, with over 400 products containing steel and aluminium, which are now subject to an average tariff rate of 26%.”<\/p>\n
