A sharply worded statement was issued by government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis, in response to statements by the PASOK Konstantinos Tsoukalas and bringing back to the forefront the issue of consultations on the Independent Authorities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Mr. Tsoukalas had stressed that PASOK was not involved in “bargaining”, commenting on what the government spokesman said about contacts between the government and the opposition.<\/p>\n

In his new statement, Mr. Marinakis responded in high tones, calling on the PASOK spokesman to avoid personal attacks and address the party’s chairman, Nikos Androulakis, for specific questions.<\/p>\n

The PASOK press spokesman would be better off dropping personal characterizations and cheap quotes and asking his party’s president to answer the following simple questions:<\/p>\n

Has he personally been in communication, for months, with the vice-president of the government, Kostis Hatzidakis, in the context of the need to find persons of common consent, so that the increased majorities, as required by the Constitution of the country, can be obtained, so that the Independent Authorities do not continue to be ineffective?<\/p>\n

Is it true that, after these discussions, the government majority and the opposition had arrived at two persons of common acceptance, hence the Speaker announced them at the Conference of Presidents?<\/p>\n

Did their potential new “partners” from the “wondrous” world of populism and extreme toxicity know about PASOK’s talks with the government?<\/p>\n

The time has come for the PASOK president to understand that “you can fool many for a while or you can fool a few for a long time, but you can’t fool everyone forever”.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
