Along with the drug trafficker, who authorities say was arrested, three other people involved in the ring<\/b> were also arrested. Police seized small amounts of cannabis and cocaine while seven cartridges of various calibres were found in the house of the 30-year-old Albanian hooligan. <\/p>\nRaises questions<\/h3>\n
The 30-year-old hooligan and drug dealer’s criminal past is both sensational and questionable. According to information from Manifesto, he first came under the microscope of the authorities on December 30, 2014, at the age of just 19.<\/b> At the time, he was arrested in Kalamata as he was found to be in possession of a small amount of cannabis. Eight days later, on January 7, 2025, he was arrested again in Kalamata with 3.7 grams of raw cannabis.<\/p>\n
This was followed by two more arrests in 2019 in Agia Varvara, on January 29 and April 20, also for possession of cannabis. On January 17, 2021, the 30-year-old was charged with trafficking 36 kilograms of raw cannabis in Igoumenitsa, and was arrested again for a small amount of drugs on April 7, 2025 in Filothei. The 30-year-old hooligan has not only concerned the authorities for cases of drugs<\/b>. <\/p>\n
According to Manifesto, he has also been charged with rape, theft, insubordination and weapons law violations.<\/b>On December 7, 2023, he was accused of participating with the rest of the runaway crowd of hooligans in the Renti riots that led to the death of police officer Giorgos Liggeridis. The case of the 30-year-old Albanian man arrested in Agia Varvara, who, according to the authorities, was involved in the manslaughter of George Liggeridis, is not the only one.<\/p>\n
As Manifesto revealed in a report, last March a 26-year-old man, also accused of killing the policeman in Renti, was arrested after a chase in the Patission area. At the time, police officers had spotted two people on a motorbike driving on Kaitantanzoglou Street. <\/p>\n
The individuals were deemed suspicious and a signal was given to them to immobilize the vehicle. The riders, however, pretended not to notice the command and attempted to flee by gaining speed<\/b>. A chase ensued, with police officers eventually stopping them on Dimitriou Rallis Street, in Patisia. It was found that the 26-year-old was the driver of the motorcycle, while the passenger was a 27-year-old trapper, who reportedly has a serious criminal past. The police officers of the Patissia Crime Investigation and Detection Department found that the 26-year-old driver was one of the persons involved in the Lygeridis case. The trapper and the driver disposed of a 20 cm knife during the chase. A case had been filed against them on charges of violating the firearms law and insubordination. <\/b><\/p>\nThe perpetrators of the vandalism are missing<\/h3>\n
At the same time, the authorities’ search for the identification and arrest of the people who vandalized the bust that has been erected in Thessaloniki’s Fountain Square<\/b> remains unsuccessful. The perpetrators, without a trace of empathy and respect for a young man who was murdered by hooligans while performing routine duty outside a volleyball court, threw black paint on his bust. <\/p>\n
The “sick minds”<\/b>was referred to by the president of the Thessaloniki Police Officers’ Union, Thodoris Tsairidis<\/b>, who said in a post on social media: “At the unveiling of the bust of the heroic policeman Lygeridis George, I had mentioned that 100 times and if it is vandalized, 101 we will be there to restore it. (…) These extreme and sick minorities must, with the contribution of everyone, disappear from the city of Thessaloniki. And for this to happen, everyone must act with determination, far from phobic syndromes.
