It seems that May<\/b> hasn’t got off to a very good start for Alexis Tsipras.<\/b><\/p>\n
<\/b>And that’s because, almost immediately after the manifesto<\/b> marking his return <\/b> to active politics,<\/b> came a public confrontation<\/b> that clouded message <\/b>of a reboot.<\/p>\n
The former prime minister chose to respond publicly<\/b> to journalists Eleni Varvitsioti<\/b> and Victoria Dendrinou<\/b>, authors of the book “The Last Bluff<\/b>“, stating that he would not respond<\/b> to their call. <\/p>\n
The reason? <\/b>As he argued, his attendance would “legitimize<\/b>” a narrative<\/b> that, according to him, targets him, going so far as to call it “character assassination<\/b>“. At the core of his objection is the report<\/b> – as he claims – that he allegedly connected<\/b> the Presponses Agreement<\/b> with negotiating cuts<\/a><\/b> in pensions<\/b>with the then Commission President Jean Claude Juncker.<\/b><\/p>\n
However, the response<\/b> of the two journalists was direct and unequivocal<\/b>: in none of the 399 pages of the book<\/b> is there any such reference<\/b>, neither direct nor indirect. Somewhere here an obvious question of credibility arises. <\/p>\n
Who is telling the truth? And who is bluffing?<\/b><\/p>\n
For those who haven’t read the book, the dilemma<\/b> is real. But for those who have read it<\/b> – from what I read in the social media – there is no dilemma<\/b>.<\/b> Moreover, experience shows that two professional journalists are unlikely to refute<\/b> their own work. Most likely scenario? An exaggerated – if not incorrect – interpretation<\/b> on the part of Tsipras.<\/p>\n
In any case, as a political startup<\/b>, it’s not exactly successful rebranding.<\/b> An aggressive stance against journalists for something that – at least according to them and the wider readership – is not required<\/b> raises more questions<\/b> than it solves.
