Twelve actions to support people with disabilities were announced earlier today at an inter-ministerial press conference<\/b> held at the Bodossaki Mansion. <\/p>\n
These are interventions under the European Climate Fund<\/b> that will be completed in 2032 and are essentially a long-term strategy to enhance the equality, accessibility and social inclusion of people with disabilities.<\/p>\n
Specifically, \u20ac1.47 billion will be allocated to over 100,000 beneficiaries, \u20ac270 million exclusively to people with disabilities and \u20ac1.2 billion with priority given to people with disabilities and their families. <\/b><\/p>\n
The presentation of the press conference was made by the Minister of State – in charge of the Coordination Mechanism for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Akis Skertos<\/b>, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Konstantinos Kyranakis, the Minister of Education and Religious Affairs Sofia Zacharaki<\/b> and the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Domna Michailidou<\/b>.<\/p>\n
Speaking about the Social Climate Fund,<\/b> Mr Skertos said that this is “a new EU financial instrument<\/b> which provides 5.3 billion euros in funding. It is a new financial instrument that will provide \u20ac5.5 billion for our country with the aim of reducing social and economic inequalities<\/b> in the energy transition that we, as a society, are called upon to make towards cleaner forms of energy. How is this being achieved? By supporting our most vulnerable citizens in our national effort to reduce the financial and energy costs in every home as well as in transport, especially for poorer households and vulnerable citizens, by harnessing renewable energy sources that produce cleaner and cheaper energy<\/b>.”<\/p>\n
According to Mr. Skerchos, the 12 actions will be implemented along four axes<\/b>: accessible transport, social housing, mobility and inclusion in education. “Disability policies are a prime example of a policy area that concerns 10% of the country’s population,<\/b> which unfortunately remained for decades on the unseen side of the moon. It is in the field of disability that the need for a more executive and more collaborative state is perhaps most emphatically documented, summed up in three key words, the three sigma: Cooperation, continuity and consistency. Everything that is needed to produce results in governance. These are the concepts that have been missing over time from the culture of administration of the Greek state<\/b>, these are the concepts that we strive for every day, so that no citizen of this country and especially people with disabilities do not feel that they are invisible to the state or to their fellow citizens.”<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
