With a message focused on the future and innovation, Kyriakos Mitsotakis<\/b> set the tone for the new era of College of Athens<\/b>.<\/p>\n

prime minister<\/b>, attending the celebration<\/b> of the 100th anniversary of its foundation. <\/p>\n

Mr Kyriakos Mitsotakis<\/b>, in a speech<\/b> with strong symbolism, urged the educational community to go beyond mere reminiscence and focus on the challenges of tomorrow.<\/p>\n

Referring to the significance of the event, the Prime Minister said, “It is a time and an opportunity to reminisce about our school memories<\/b>.” <\/p>\n

However, he was quick to give a clear strategic direction<\/b>, stressing the need for constant evolution: “Let us not turn today’s celebration into a day of nostalgia for a glorious past, but into a day of new ambitious goals for the next 100 years<\/b>“.<\/p>\n

Inspired by the legacy of Eleftherios Venizelos<\/b>, who pioneered the creation of the College, Mitsotakis<\/b> set the central stakes of the modern era, noting: “The question we must ask is whether the College today remains bold and innovative<\/b>.”<\/p>\n

He then outlined four major challenges<\/strong> for the College’s next day:<\/p>\n

The first concerns<\/b> “the huge challenge of artificial intelligence<\/b> for the future of education. There is no way the College cannot be at the forefront. I cite as an example how public schools are partnering with AI companies. I would like in the discussion of how we incorporate AI into education for the College to be on the front line<\/b>.”<\/p>\n

The second<\/b> “involves composition of the student body itself<\/b> and whether the College is still a school that gives opportunities to children regardless of their financial situation<\/b>. How many get in through exams and how many through other means. It is something we should be concerned about. I think in the last few decades it has lost that social stratification<\/b> that it had in our time.”<\/p>\n

The third<\/b> challenge is about the financial opportunities<\/b> of the College. “I envision, dear presidents, a College that has a fiduciary<\/b> so strong, that allows any student who can afford it to enter authoritatively through examinations<\/b> and, if they cannot afford the fees, they are covered by the trust. I think the College should set that goal.”<\/p>\n

The fourth<\/b> “is linked to the different priorities of our students. How the school will truly become an inclusive<\/b> school that recognizes diversity, respects and recognises the major mental health problems<\/b> that we sadly see children and teenagers facing and how that really becomes a priority so that children are happy at school<\/b> and having a good time.”<\/p>\n

“We may have done relatively well in life and to some extent we owe that to the College. But let’s not forget that there were some who graduated from College with unpleasant experiences, with difficult experiences that had to do with practices that in our time may have been acceptable, but today may not be acceptable. So the focus on the mental health<\/b> of our children with all the tools we can give them so that they can become complete and happy people and creative citizens<\/b>, I think should be a priority for schools for the next 100 years. Or let’s say for the next 10 years, because we won’t be here for the 200 years of the College,” he added.<\/p>\n
