The incorporation of the revised European RED III directive aligns the country with the European Union’s ambitious climate targets, which call for an increase in the share of renewable energy to 42.5% by 2030.

Special emphasis is placed on addressing one of the major long-standing obstacles to investment in Greece: lengthy licensing procedures. As the article points out, the new law introduces strict timelines, reducing the permitting time for large projects – such as wind farms – from 8-10 years to just 12-18 months.

According to the article, the bill also promotes the development of energy communities, which will allow municipalities and local groups to produce and consume their own electricity. And it also introduces a framework for pilot green projects to strengthen the links between renewable energy, energy storage and electricity supply, particularly in transportation.

“Clear goals”

The legislation lays the groundwork for offshore wind development, the developer said, with the state identifying sites and coordinating investments.

The paper adds that the Environment and Energy Ministry said last Friday that the reforms would boost energy security, reduce costs and make Greece a regional clean energy hub amid continued market volatility.

And quotes a statement by Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou that the new framework sets clear targets, definitions and criteria… so that we can make faster and even more use of the abundant sun and wind we have in abundance.”

The article concludes that the capacity of renewable energy sources in Greece is 18 GW with a target of 28 GW by 2030, according to the national plan for energy and climate.

Accelerated permitting, energy communities and offshore wind development boost investment and make the country a regional powerhouse.

[7

post-3964","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-economy
["GET
