Aktor<\/strong> Group completes a 20-year contract<\/strong> with US giant LNG Venture Global for the supply and sale of natural gas to Albanian Albgaz from 2030.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Strong competition from Asia could make it more difficult to secure new volumes of LNG<\/strong> from international markets without paying a high<\/b> premium, warned Aktor Group President and CEO Mr. Alexandros Exarchou,<\/strong> speaking to Politico<\/b>.<\/p>\n

As Mr. Exarchou pointed out, the AKTOR<\/strong> Group is finalizing a 20-year<\/strong> supply contract with US giant LNG Venture Global for the supply and sale of natural gas to Albanian Albgaz from 2030.<\/strong><\/p>\n

When this contract, as well as other long-term agreements are completed – probably by the end of May – the AKTOR<\/strong> group will attempt to secure additional shorter-term LNG supply and purchase contracts<\/strong>, which Mr. Exarchou considers necessary, as the war in Iran is putting enormous pressure on the global energy market, stressing however that the project will not be easy.<\/p>\n

And he added that this year it will be particularly difficult to secure significant quantities of LNG from the US at a reasonable price, as he cannot rule out the possibility of Asian companies paying higher financial bids to LNG suppliers amid increasing competition that has led to an increasing share of LNG cargoes being diverted to the East.<\/p>\n

As K. Exarchou<\/strong>, the result of this new situation may be that Europe will have to accept higher prices for the foreseeable future<\/strong>, as the problems Qatar is already facing due to the war are compounded by the ban on Russian gas and the limitation of the quantities of LNG that the US market can currently supply. As a result, there are no other major sources of supply.<\/p>\n

The head of the AKTOR Group noted that he is hopeful of securing a new preferential, long-term supply agreement for Europe for quantities of US LNG expected to be available from 2030. However, he noted that this will also depend on the structural changes brought about by the closure of the Straits of Hormuz.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Exarchou commented that the long-term prices currently offered by the Group are very cheap and noted that, regardless of what happens in the future, they will remain competitive.<\/p>\n

While stating that the US deals are only one aspect of a wider diversification strategy<\/strong>, he noted that Europe should ensure that it is not dependent on anyone and any source of energy. Indeed, he noted that “energy can be used as a weapon against Europe, so we need to keep a balance in the sources of LNG and gas we source.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
