The funding of “model social centres for children and parents with disabilities”, has been requested in a question to the Commissioners for Finance and Budget, by ND MEP Giorgos Avtias<\/b>, as a member of the Finance Committee. <\/p>\n
Avtias stresses that he has been the recipient of many requests from parents<\/b> of disabled children and their respective associations, who have pointed out to him that “they are worried about the future of their children when they themselves are no longer alive, as they risk being left without support”. <\/b><\/p>\n
The parents, therefore, as noted, “call on the European Commission to intervene immediately and decisively so that the projects they have submitted to the governments of the European Union member states to support their children receive the necessary funding”. In other words, to support “this social necessity”<\/p>\n
The text of the question by the MEP of the New Democracy and the EPP, G. Avtia’s MEP and MEP for the European Parliament, Mr. Vardis Dombrovskis and Mr. Piot Serafin, to the Commissioners for Finance and Budget, reads as follows:<\/p>\n
“Thousands of parents of children with disabilities in Europe and Greece are worried about the future of their children when they themselves pass away. They are looking for solutions to the trauma and feeling of abandonment that their children will experience. <\/b><\/p>\n
Parents of people with disabilities, trusting your sensitivity, make the following requests:<\/p>\n
Fund model social centres.<\/b> Already, exemplary projects have been brought to the attention of the governments (member states) of the EU. Parent and child grow old together and the child is involved to the end in the life of his\/her parent, who becomes a sacrifice for him\/her, and the structure will guarantee continuity of care.<\/p>\n
Provide funds for the creation of model training centres<\/b> for parents with disabled children.<\/p>\n
Institute the institution of a personal assistant for disabled people<\/b> within residential care facilities throughout Europe and provide the corresponding financial support.<\/p>\n
Fund the creation of European villages for children with disabilities,<\/b> where the parent does not hand the child over at the village gate, but can live with the child as a worker, volunteer or even carer.<\/p>\n
Establish 14 May as a pan-European day for mothers of children with disabilities. <\/b><\/p>\n
On the basis of these facts, will the European Commission:<\/p>\n
– Will it financially support this extremely human effort?<\/p>\n
