The Greek Parliament<\/b> has approved with expanded support the strategy upgrading<\/b> of the Navy<\/b> and the strengthening of military training.<\/p>\n
With a significant majority, the relevant Parliamentary Committee on Armament Programmes<\/b> and Contraventions<\/b> gave its approval<\/b> for the reconstruction of the four MEKO type frigates<\/b>. <\/p>\n
The implementation of this project is to be carried out at the facilities of the Skaramanga Shipyards<\/b>, a move that strengthens the domestic defence industry and ensures the operational capability of the fleet for years to come. <\/p>\n
At the same time, the decision marks the activation of three additional critical equipment programs<\/b>, which aim to modernize the capabilities of the Armed Forces.<\/p>\n
The deputy minister of National Defence, Athanasios Davakis<\/b>, and the leadership of the Armed Forces in the closed-door meeting, briefed the committee members on the contract for the upgrade of four MEKO-type frigates of the Navy from the Skaramanga Shipyards<\/b>, amounting to 19 million euros. 19 euros, which is part of the provision that the domestic defence ecosystem will participate at least 25% in the armament programmes of the Armed Forces.<\/p>\n
The upgrade of the four MEKO frigates<\/b> aims at extending their operational action for at least 15 more years, with the integration of a package of new weapons and auxiliary systems.<\/p>\n
According to reports, in the committee, positive opinions specifically on the upgrade of the four MEKO frigates were expressed by the New Democracy, PASOK-KINAL, SYRIZA-PS, New Left, and Hellenic Solution<\/b>. The KKE expressed a negative opinion, while NIKI was present.<\/p>\n
The committee was also informed about the progress of the implementation agreement for the acquisition of two Bergamini\/FREMM class frigates from the Italian Navy<\/b> and the upgrade programme in Greece<\/b>, as well as two other programmes concerning the National Defence Forces.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
