{"id":4216,"date":"2026-05-06T09:58:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T06:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=4216"},"modified":"2026-05-06T09:58:00","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T06:58:00","slug":"the-cargo-ship-corsage-c-sank-north-of-andros-all-9-sailors-were-saved-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=4216","title":{"rendered":"The cargo ship &#8220;Corsage C&#8221; sank north of Andros &#8211; All 9 sailors were saved (photos)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A <b>preventive anti-fouling operation<\/b> is in full swing north of <b>Andros<\/b>, following the sinking of the vessel <b>&#8220;Corsage C&#8221;<\/b>, a Vanuatu-flagged freighter, while the cause of the maritime accident remains unclear so far. <\/p>\n<p>The authorities have put in place a plan to deal with <b>a potential marine pollution<\/b>, amid fears of fuel leaks from the sunken <b>vessel<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Two special anti-fouling vessels of the Limenikos \u03a3\u03cemos-Hellenic Coast Guard from the port of Rafina have already gone to the site, while two more patrol boats of the L.S. are carrying <b>sea anti-fouling response equipment. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>According to reports, within the next few hours the process of developing a floating barrier around the area of the sinking is expected to begin, as well as the <b>placement of absorbent materials<\/b>, in order to limit any potential environmental pollution.<\/p>\n<p>The cargo ship had sailed from a port in Albania bound for Ukraine, <b>carrying about 8,000 metric tons of soda ash.<\/b> According to initial reports, the ship struck a rocky area to the north of Andros, under circumstances that are still being investigated by port authorities.<\/p>\n<p>The collision caused severe damage to the hulls and an influx of water, resulting in the ship quickly losing its watertightness and eventually sinking.<\/p>\n<p>A total of <b>nine crew members<\/b> were on board, who were successfully rescued and are in good health.
