A strong reaction was caused by the orcism<\/b> of Petros Konstantinos<\/b> as a city councillor in the Municipality of Athens, on the occasion of the different wording of the oath<\/b> he chose to pronounce.<\/p>\n

Constantinou, who belongs to AntiparsyA <\/b>which exchanges<\/b> the one seat it holds on the city council, did not follow the prescribed text of the oath<\/b>. Instead of the standard wording, which provides for fidelity to the Constitution <\/b>and the laws of the Hellenic Republic, he made an extensive political statement<\/b> with strong ideological and social content.<\/p>\n

This choice provoked a reaction<\/b> from the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, who spoke of “outrageous images”<\/b> and a disparagement of the swearing-in process. In a public statement, he argued that the institutional oath was replaced<\/b> by “anonymity<\/b>“, stressing that the process cannot be considered valid<\/b> without following the prescribed format.<\/p>\n

“He has no place there whatsoever until he takes the legal oath<\/b>,” he noted, raising the tone of the criticism.<\/p>\n

For his part, Petros Constantinou<\/b> chose to take an oath with a clear political stance, citing, among other things, defending workers<\/b>, opposition to government policies, war<\/b> and genocide in Gaza,<\/b> as well as issues such as Tempi, Pylos, Palestine and social justice. His statement also included references to the Resistance<\/b>, victims of violence, and calls for equality and separation of church and state.<\/p>\n

According to the “Subversive Alliance for Athens” municipal faction,<\/b> supporters and representatives of collective groups<\/b> were present at the swearing-in ceremony, including Kostas Papadakis, Javed Aslam, whose asylum has been revoked by Lt. Immigration and Asylum, immigrant<\/b> employees of the Municipality of Athens and activists from the Palestinian community.<\/p>\n
