In an environment of heightened geopolitical instability and intense diplomatic warnings<\/b>, tensions between Moscow and Kiev is entering a new, particularly critical phase<\/b>, with the Russian side issuing harsh warnings of possible military retaliation<\/b>, calling for evacuation of diplomatic missions from the Ukrainian capital<\/b> and linking developments to the possibility of targeted attacks ahead of the 9 May celebrations<\/b>, which further heightens the concern<\/b> in the international community about a possible new escalation of the conflict<\/b>.<\/p>\n
In particular, Russia’s Foreign Ministry<\/b> is calling on foreign countries to ensure the evacuation<\/b> of their diplomats from Kiev.<\/b><\/p>\nZaharova’s threats<\/h3>\n
Official spokeswoman of the ministry, Maria Zaharova, recalled that on May 4 the Russian Defense Ministry issued an official statement “in connection with the threats of the Kiev regime to strike Moscow on the day sacred for all Russians, Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War.”<\/p>\n
Moscow is calling on foreign countries to evacuate their diplomats from Kiev in a timely manner in case Ukraine attempts to disrupt the May 9 celebrations in Moscow. This was stated in a comment by Zakharova.<\/p>\n
“The Russian Foreign Ministry urgently calls on the authorities of your country\/your organization’s administration to treat this statement with the utmost responsibility and ensure the timely evacuation from the city of Kyiv of the personnel of diplomatic and other missions, as well as citizens, because of the inevitable retaliation by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation against Kiev, including the decision-making centres, in case the Kiev regime implements its criminal terrorist plans during the days of the Great Victory celebrations,” Zakharova stressed.<\/p>\n
She drew attention to the timing of events. “On May 4, 2026, during the European Political Community meeting in Yerevan, the head of the Kiev regime, Volodymyr Zelensky, made aggressive and threatening statements about his intention to disrupt the sacred Victory Day celebration in Moscow with terrorist acts. Representatives of some EU countries were present and none of them disapproved of him,” the diplomat said.<\/p>\n
“On the same day, the Russian Defense Ministry issued a warning, which was a response to Zelensky’s aggressive intentions. I emphasize that this was done precisely as a countermeasure,” she added.<\/p>\n
Zaharova noted that EU countries are wrong if they think they can silence Zelensky’s public aggressive statements about his intention to disrupt Victory Day in Moscow.<\/p>\n
The Russian Defense Ministry announced a ceasefire for May 8-9 and expects the Ukrainian side to do the same. However, should the Kiev regime attempt to strike Moscow on May 9 to disrupt the celebrations, Russian forces will launch a massive retaliatory strike on central Kiev. Despite existing capabilities, Russia, for humanitarian reasons, had so far avoided such attacks, the Defense Ministry noted, stressing that the Russian armed forces would take all necessary measures to ensure the security of the celebrations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
