And even reminiscent of his predecessors of other eras!

In short, the pressure of low performance, the inability to formulate a convincing government narrative and the absence of a dynamic rise essentially determine the way he chooses to confront himself politically. His recent interview on Alpha TV is a prime example of this political shift to a populism and rhetoric that would be the envy of parties that are currently (thankfully) not in parliament.

Specifically, speaking on the issue of backlinks, he stressed that “all of this describes a diversion. Mr Mitsotakis is a prime minister of aberrations, faithful to his family’s traditions.” This one sentence encapsulates the entire strategy of the PASOK president. Because the reference to “family traditions” is not only about the current prime minister. It also directly touches the late Constantine Mitsotakis, turning political criticism into a total denigration of a family and historical path. And here too, Androulakis confirms the fact that toxicity tends to become second nature. We recall that Kyriakos Mitsotakis has been subjected to similar attacks on other relatives, such as his wife.

For the record, Mr Tsipras, who adopted such a strategy, says in his book in a kind of mea culpa: “The second was that he misled us into making mistakes. In a state of siege and under the state of anger, we adopted a tactic of highlighting scandals, which concerned not only Mitsotakis but also his wife’s business activity”!

In any case, Androulakis’ attack is not the first time the Greek political scene has seen such practices. The 1980s’ “Orientalism” was based precisely on the logic of personal attacks, insinuations, generalizations and a constant effort to create impressions through hyperbole. The difference is that today a society that has gone through multiple crises and has faced such phenomena does not… bite. And this can be clearly seen in the polling data.

Nikos Androulakis is failing to capitalize politically on his opposition stance, while he has learned nothing (apparently) from the case of Alexis Tsipras. Instead, he remains stuck in low percentages, with the “needle” moving marginally. On the question of suitability for prime minister, his performance remains limited, and in some metrics he is even overtaken by politicians such as Zoe Konstantopoulou or Kyriakos Velopoulos. Even more telling is the fact that when names are removed from the metrics, his position declines further. And at the same time, the presence of Alexis Tsipras – even without an active party body – acts as a pressure factor. The possibility of his reactivation in the political arena creates an additional anxiety for PASOK, as it threatens to absorb part of the electoral audience that attempts to reach out to the opposition party.

Successful strategy

In this environment, the choice of toxicity looks more like a panic reaction than a strategy. Instead of formulating a coherent program and responding to the issues of everyday life, the PASOK leadership seems to be investing in a rhetoric that does not produce a political result and which was used by SYRIZA and even condemned in multiple electoral battles.

There is, finally, as experienced political observers underline, a crucial parameter concerning the limits of public discourse. The invocation of “family traditions” is a political choice that opens up a debate about the level of debate and whether it can remain within institutional frameworks.

Overall, the picture that is emerging is that the pressure of polls and the inability to broaden politically (instead, historical figures like Castanides are leaving) is leading to an increasingly aggressive rhetoric. But toxicity does not create majorities, but clear political dead ends for Nikos Androulakis and his party.

Androulakis confirms the fact that toxicity tends to become second nature.
Nerves and demographic stagnation seem to …

[3

post-4382","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-politics
["GET
