In his revelations about what he said was an unknown three-hour meeting with Germany’s then ambassador to Greece, Peter Schof<\/strong>, before Syriza<\/strong>, Giannis Varoufakis<\/p>\n

Commenting on the meeting between the ambassador<\/b> and Alexis Tsipras, which was featured in the Skai <\/strong> documentary “In the Millimeter<\/strong>“, the former finance minister said in an interview with Kontra Channel that he had been invited to the German embassy before SYRIZA became the government<\/b>, claiming that the German diplomat was operating with the aim“to choke<\/em>“<\/b>the then-incoming government.<\/p>\n

As he described it, a “virtual negotiation<\/em>“<\/b> took place during the three-hour meeting, and called the ambassador “a dog of war<\/em>“<\/b>, saying he had “the mindset of a German conqueror<\/b><\/em><\/em>“.<\/b> According to him, the key message conveyed to him was that “if you don’t sign the amnesty<\/b>, we will take your homes<\/b><\/em>.”<\/p>\n

Reflecting specifically on the Tsipras-Sov meeting, Mr. Varoufakis noted that if he had to choose who he believed between the former prime minister and the German ambassador, he would believe the first<\/b>, but clarified that he had no personal knowledge of the meeting.<\/p>\n

About Alexis Tsipras<\/b>, he also said that “a good fight<\/em> was fought<\/em>“, but accused the former prime minister of eventually “joining the Troika<\/em>“. At the same time, he attacked former Eurogroup chief Gerun Dijsselbloem<\/strong>, whom he called “unintelligent, incompetent and ignorant<\/em>“<\/b>, saying that he “didn’t even understand what he was proposing<\/em>“. He even claimed that after the signing of the Memorandum, Tsipras maintained friendly relations with him at the Meximou Mansion<\/b>, which – he said – “cannot be forgiven<\/em>.<\/b><\/p>\n

At another point in the interview, speaking about the third Memorandum<\/b>, the former minister argued that the previous program could not be completed without a new memorandum, estimating that Alexis Tsipras “gave them the opportunity<\/b> to put the blame on the left<\/b><\/em>“.<\/p>\n

He also revealed that he had asked Germany’s former finance minister Wolfgang<\/b>Seuble<\/b> when the decision to remove the Samaras government<\/b> was taken, with Sch\u00e4uble – according to him – replying “in July 2014<\/em>“.<\/p>\n

Finally, in the wake of the discussion on the cost of the Memorandum, Varoufakis also attacked former ESM chief Claus<\/b>Regling<\/b>, calling him “uncredible, ignorant and immoral<\/em>“. As he argued, Regling<\/b> had told him: “Don’t you have to pay the IMF? Cut pensions<\/em>.”<\/p>\n
