The President of the Greek Parliament<\/b>, Nikitas Kaklamanis<\/b>, attended and addressed the event entitled “Timelessness and Ecumenism: The Patriarchate of Constantinople in the Modern World”<\/b>, in the presence of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew<\/b>.<\/p>\n
During his speech, Mr. Kaklamanis expressed his emotion for the event, noting that “it is a great joy and emotion to honour the Patriarchate of Constantinople”, while he also referred to the double anniversary<\/b> that this year marks: That of the completion of 35 years of His Beatitude His Holiness<\/b> the Ecumenical Patriarch’s 35 years on the throne of the Primate of Orthodoxy, with the milestone of 65 years since the beginning of his priestly mission<\/b>.<\/p>\n
The President of the Parliament highlighted the historical and spiritual role of the institution, stressing that “like a ship sailing through the centuries, it leaves behind a bright trail and charts new bright destinations”, underlining its timeless presence. Mr N. Kaklamanis made special reference to the Ecumenical Patriarch, underlining his long-standing contribution, noting that his presence “coincides with important milestones for Orthodoxy”, while praising his contribution to the modern world, stressing that with “a clear speech, a pragmatic spirit and a dialogue that is essentially unifying” he has highlighted the role of the Patriarchate as a factor of stability, unity and international radiance<\/b>.<\/p>\n
Referring to the roots of the Church of Constantinople, he referred to the contribution of Apostle Andrew<\/b>, noting that he laid the foundations of its faith and its mission, which unceasingly maintains its unifying character. At the same time, he stressed the contemporary role of the Patriarchate, noting its action on critical issues, such as protection of the environment<\/b>, human rights<\/b> and interreligious dialogue<\/b>, as well as the ongoing effort for the reopening of the Halki School of Theology<\/b>.<\/p>\n
As he said, “it is an institutional and geopolitical hub, a beacon for millions of believers and a global model that protects Hellenism<\/b> everywhere.” In closing, Mr. N. Kaklamanis expressed his gratitude, stressing that “we owe honor and gratitude to this cornerstone of our faith and continuity.”<\/p>\n

The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, the member of the Southwestern Parliament and professor of International Law and Foreign Policy, Mr. Angelos Syrigos<\/b> and the Dean of the Higher School of Fine Arts, Erato Hadjisavva<\/b>.
