Ministers and dozens of MEPs<\/b> are calling for a change of leadership after election losses<\/b> and the expanding intra-party crisis in Britain’s Labour Party.<\/b><\/p>\n

In a climate of intense political uncertainty<\/b> and increasing internal party pressure, the British prime minister<\/b> Kir Starmer<\/b>, as reports in the British press reveal a wave of discontent<\/b> within Labour<\/b>, with ministers and dozens of MPs openly considering a leadership change<\/b>. Political tension is escalating after recent election losses<\/b> at the local level, which have intensified voices of contestation<\/b> and opened up talk of a possible reshuffle at the top of the government<\/b>.<\/p>\n

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer<\/b> reportedly accepted resignations from Home Secretary Sabana Mahmood<\/b> and other top cabinet officials<\/b> to consider setting a timetable<\/b> for his departure, according to a Times report on Monday<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The outburst<\/h3>\n

The newspaper reports that Mahmoud is one of at least three cabinet members who reportedly indicated to the prime minister that he should reconsider his position.<\/p>\n

Earlier, according to reports, more than 40 Labour MPs called on British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to resign or set a timetable for his departure after his landmark speech failed to allay the concerns of those challenging him.<\/p>\n

A Labour MP backed out of the leadership race, but made it clear she would seek Starmer’s departure by September.<\/p>\n

MEP Catherine West said she would now seek support from within the party to oust the prime minister, but she does not intend to run for the leadership role, according to the Independent.<\/p>\n

“Tough” election results<\/h3>\n

A leadership candidacy requires the formal support of 81 MPs, with many more MPs expressing their displeasure with Kir Starmer.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the prime minister said his party would “get better and do better,” calling the election results “tough” after losing nearly 1,500 councillors in England and taking control of the Welsh parliament last week.<\/p>\n

Addressing an audience in central London, he said: “I understand it, I feel it and I take responsibility.”<\/p>\n

Although the prime minister dodged questions about the possibility of a leadership contest from Angela Reiner or the possibility of blocking a bid by Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, he praised both, describing Ms Reiner as his “friend”.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
