The latest developments surrounding the investigation of the armed robbery in Kato Tithorea were given by the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis<\/b>, in a statement to ERT.<\/p>\n
As he said, “the GreekFBI had been monitoring this group for a long time.” He added that “they had committed other robberies, one major and others minor. The police organized themselves, followed them and acted.”<\/p>\n
Asked whether there was any information about any connections<\/b> between the arrested persons and other criminal activities<\/b>, Chrysochoidis commented that “they may be connected to something else, but this will be found by the judges and prosecutors.” “This group, which was very competent and active, eventually fell into the trap of the service and was arrested,” he added.<\/p>\n
“We are an open continent and there are a lot of weapons being traded,” he said, while commenting on the bloody events in Crete that “in this region there is an excess of weapons<\/b>.” He added that “the task is to dismantle the criminal organizations.”<\/b><\/p>\n
At the same time, he warned that when the war in Ukraine ends, there will be large movements of weapons to Europe. “I have expressed my concern to the European Commission and efforts are being made to see how the movement of weapons<\/b> will be controlled,” he said.<\/p>\n
Hrisohoidis stressed that this is a big problem and said a major campaign, operations and investigations are needed to reduce the number of illegal weapons as much as possible.<\/p>\n
Then Chrysochoidis referred to the traffic issue<\/b>, saying that “we have almost four times as many cars in the basin with the same infrastructure and roads. This as an equation does not work out.”<\/p>\n
“We have launched an effort to make it easier for our fellow citizens to get around as quickly and less tiringly as possible with the Kn\u03bc\u03b2os<\/b> project, whose operational centre is located at the GADA with about 150 traffic officers,” he said.<\/p>\n
He added that “we have procured drones which help to have an overall picture of all points in Attica so that traffic can be handled with greater flexibility and ease.”<\/b><\/p>\n
He also commented that since his return to the ministry, in the last two years, “we have increased the strength of the traffic police fivefold, which was a conscious political decision and to deal with traffic accidents.” <\/b>Finally, he said that in June there will be 300 cameras on the roads.<\/p>\n“We don’t have the infrastructure for electric scooters”<\/h3>\n
The Minister of Public Protection said that the infrastructure for electric scooters<\/b> does not exist. “For example, we don’t have bike lanes, but on the other hand it is not possible to have scooters on the sidewalk,” he said.<\/p>\n
On the measures they are taking, he said that “the first is the ban on minors, the second is private insurance so that there is compensation when the scooter causes an accident and a number of other conditions so that we can reduce the risks from scooters.”<\/p>\n
Michalis Chrysochoidis also referred to the Final 4 of the Euroleague<\/b> which is expected to take place at the end of the month in Athens, saying that “we will not allow anyone to disturb the order and security of the city”.<\/p>\n
“The Final 4will be held according to the rules of the Euroleague on the one hand and the Hellenic Republic on the other, with security, law enforcement and order,” he said.<\/p>\n
He warned that “no one will enter the stadium without identification and police forces will check everyone<\/b>. “In the next few days we will conduct an autopsy at the venue to see how the police forces will be ordered overall and how fans will be checked.”<\/p>\n
