Decisive action on the demographics is called for, in a question to Finance Commissioners Valdis Dombrovskis and Piort Serafin, by ND and EPP MEP Giorgos Avtias<\/b>.<\/p>\n
In his question he sets out the “key parameters that make up the establishment of a new European initiative<\/b> to tackle the demographic crisis throughout Europe<\/b> and certainly in Greece.”<\/p>\n
G. Avtia’s proposals, always in consultation with the relevant social bodies, are the support of a stable income, the provision of financial support to young people who want to start a family, easy access to affordable housing, as well as stable and continuous benefits in health, education, development and equal social cohesion<\/b>“, according to the statement.<\/p>\n
“The demographic issue is an issue that touches us all. The time has come for immediate and decisive measures<\/b>,” Avtias said.<\/p>\n
The text of Avtias’ question reads as follows:<\/p>\n
“Commissioners,<\/p>\n
Demography is a huge issue that is plaguing Greece and Europe. The time has come to take immediate, decisive measures and initiatives to resolve this issue. The Commission has an obligation to move dynamically. Supporting the institution of the family with stable employment, strong economic growth, easy access to affordable housing, equal health, education and other social facilities will support young people to start a family. Economic security must be solid and equitable to enable young people to secure a stable future. Also, stimulating regional development will be the other pole of support and effective intervention to solve the demographic problem. <\/p>\n
Taking measures to create stable jobs, together with the state care provided to the institution of the family are important factors. The public and private sectors can work together to solve the demographic crisis. The demographic issue affects us all. Stability in the finances of young families will help to alleviate the demographic problem.<\/b><\/p>\n
On the basis of these facts, will the European Commission say:<\/p>\n
1. Will you take new economic measures to solve the demographic problem?<\/b><\/p>\n
2. Will you provide financial support for the governments’ decisions to solve this major problem?”<\/b><\/p>\n<\/p>\n
