Bartholomew’s brilliance and spirituality make him the self-justified defender of the “Sacred and Holy” Values of the Nation, but also of the inviolable institutions and treasures of our Nation’s History, who, with sacrificial self-denial at times and at others with diplomatic prowess, ensures the precarious balance, on the one hand, the ultimate assertion of the historical acquisitions of our living Orthodox Tradition throughout the world, and on the other hand, the difficult maintenance of harmonious relations with the Turkish State.

This fragile and persistent balance, as well as the successful production of this laborious project of uninterrupted offer to the Nation, requires unending vigilance, insight, energy, special training and knowledge, gifts which the Christ-mimicking Pastor, Mr.

In addition to the fact, in other words, that he is a perfect keeper of the hot-water bottles for the sacred of our Nation, he also acts as an all-encompassing Ecumenical Patriarch, ministering to the Orthodox Churches around the world Ecclesias, preserving the unity of the Faith in a spirit of peace and unity.

His multiple and heterogeneous role, first and foremost and above all, as Spiritual Director, but also as “National Lord”, since he has complex and special administrative duties as head of the pan-Orthodox Churches.

The weighty and profound speech of His Holiness to the Plenary Session of the Parliament touched upon all the vital, crucial and thorny issues that plague modern man, beginning with the unfavourable geopolitical developments, the endemic economic problems, the new technologies whose application raises questions of bioethics, so that man’s face is not tarnished and he is not turned into a lifeless machine, as the extreme theories of metanthropism advocate, He further pointed out the instrumentalization of religious fundamentalism as a hybrid form of threat and undermining of the foundations of world peace, the lack of spirituality of modern man, but also the historical catalytic contribution of the Church worldwide, which has been a catalyst for the consolidation of international relations and the strengthening of peace in a spirit of national solidarity and understanding.

And it is worth mentioning, as an additional element of preserving the timelessness of our national identity as Christian Orthodox, a structural statute of the constitutional legal order in force, as it has been in force since the foundation of the Greek State, is the use of the Greek language, since He uttered His diaphoretic word, that is, in the katharevousa, which used ecclesiastical terminology, with a clear, full of meaning, thus demonstrating our timelessly unchanging and indissoluble link with the past, given that, through the timelessness of the undivided unity of the language, the identity of Greek-Christianity is eloquently condensed, as it was spoken, indeed, by our ancestors during those critical periods, but as the language of the Gospels and of the Divine Liturgy in general (the most common Greek language spoken by the Markovites) is preserved to this day, after that, the Atticizing, the Archaizing and finally the Catechumenal with mixed ancient types, but always with the original fundamental basis of ancient Greek)

In conclusion, it was a great honor for Greece and for us, as dear children in the Lord, to be visited by His Holiness Mr.Mr Bartholomew and among the other events that took place in his honour, to preside, on the 6thday-5-2026, the day of Mid-Pentecost, at the Holy Church of St Nicholas, which was overwhelmed by a multitude of believers, who rushed with devotion to embrace His right hand,

His contribution to our Nation is immeasurable, but His physical presence alone, for us ordinary citizens, is an encouraging breath, a breath of fresh air, a breath of everyday life, so that we can look to the future with optimism.

* Charalambos B Katsivardas is a lawyer for the Supreme
