{"id":5321,"date":"2026-05-13T13:40:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T10:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=5321"},"modified":"2026-05-13T13:40:00","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T10:40:00","slug":"dora-and-alexia-bakoyannis-for-the-conviction-of-stefanos-chios-personal-vindication-for-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=5321","title":{"rendered":"Dora and Alexia Bakoyannis for the conviction of Stefanos Chios: &#8220;Personal vindication for us&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A joint <b>announcement <\/b>was issued by <b>Dora Bakoyannis and Alexia Bakoyannis<\/b> on the occasion of their appeal to <b>Justice <\/b>against the journalist <b>Stefanos Chios.<\/b><\/p>\n<h3><strong>The joint statement of Dora and Alexia Bakoyannis<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Today, Stefanos Chios <strong>sentenced <\/strong>by the Primary Criminal Court <strong>to 25 months of suspended imprisonment and a fine of 1,500 euros,<\/strong> for repeated and serial <strong>publicity <\/strong>in the press and for <strong>insulting the memory of the dead.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This decision is not only a <strong>personal vindication for us. <\/strong>More importantly, the Court has found that <strong>Stefan Chiou&#8217;s<\/strong> connection to the <strong>Macelios<\/strong> is <strong>proven<\/strong> and documented. It can no longer hide behind pretences, evasions and misleading <strong>denials<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Let the decision be an occasion to agree on the obvious:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Journalism is a profession.<\/strong> It is not a weapon<strong> of blackmail, slander and cannibalism.<\/strong> It will not be abused by Chios and those who for years believed they could smear without consequence. There are limits. <strong>There is dignity<\/strong>.<strong>There is justice.<\/strong><br \/>Citizens have rights. They have rights even the <strong>dead<\/strong>, whose memory cannot be subject<strong> to vile exploitation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s ruling finally paves the way for <strong>more transparency<\/strong>, more accountability and less darkness in public life.
