The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport<\/b>, Christos Dimas,<\/b> in his speech at the ET Forum spoke about the spiritual projects being carried out in Crete<\/b>.<\/p>\n
This summer will see the completion of road safety enhancement measures on the existing BOD<\/b>, aiming at the immediate reduction of road accidents<\/b>, said from Heraklion of Crete<\/b> the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas<\/b>. <\/p>\n
As he said, specific works<\/b> have been completed on the Chania – Kolymbari and Heraklion – Linoperamata sections and are progressing on the Suda – Georgioupolis, Rethymnon – Geropotamos and Petres – Atsipopoulo sections, while the other two remaining sections will be done in the summer: Kissamos – Kolymbari and Geropotamos – Heraklion’s landfill.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the “CRETE 2030” FORUM, organized by the newspaper “Free Press”, Dimas stressed: “We are not waiting for the new BOAK to move with more safety<\/b>. Our goal is to immediately reduce the number of traffic accidents and that is why partitions, markings and lighting<\/b> are being installed, planting and pruning are being done in high risk areas of the road, along 131 km<\/b>“.<\/p>\n
Commenting on a poll<\/b> presented at the conference, which highlights road infrastructure as the most important need in Crete, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport described the Northern Road Axis of Crete (BOAK) as a “project of national scope”<\/b>, noting that, now, worksites are operating on all three sections of the project<\/b>, from Kissamos Chania to Agios Nikolaos, with a total length of 225 kilometres<\/b>. He pointed out that with the Prime Minister’s directive, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is funding studies to BOVAK to reach Sitia<\/b> and added: “The Government is creating the infrastructure that Crete has needed for decades and this is not an announcement, but a project, which is being carried out and everyone can see it.”<\/p>\n
About the new Heraklion International Airport in Kastelli<\/b>, the minister said it is one of the most modern aviation infrastructures in Europe. He said that construction progress is already approaching 70%<\/b>, while procedures for critical air navigation and airport operation systems are progressing in line with international standards. Mr. Dimas<\/b> set a target for the new airport to open within 2028<\/b> and stressed that “together with the BOAK, the infrastructure map of Crete is being catalytically upgraded. This is of strategic importance for the role that Crete will play in the European international transport corridors, but also in the new economic corridor between Europe and India, the IMEC corridor<\/b>, in which Greece can be a crucial hub”.<\/p>\n
The minister also spoke about the important water resources management<\/b> projects in Crete, including the Plakiotissa Dam<\/b> in Messara, the Bramianos<\/b> reservoir reinforcement projects in Lassithi, the irrigation networks in the Lassithi Plateau<\/b> and the Platy Dam in Rethymnon<\/b>. “They are technically difficult and expensive projects, but they are necessary for the future of agricultural production on the island<\/b>, which supplies the whole country,” he added.<\/p>\n
Mr. Dimas<\/b> and the “Marietta Giannakou”<\/b> school renovation programme, saying that with the additional 14 school units included in the second phase of the programme, a total of 47 schools<\/b> on the island are being renovated.<\/p>\n
Closing his statement, Mr. Dimas<\/b> stressed that the Government is forming an integrated infrastructure system in Crete. “We are creating resilient and sustainable infrastructure<\/b> that enhances security, supports the economy and, above all, improves the quality of life of citizens because projects in Crete concern first and foremost all Cretans,” he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
