The informative event<\/b> of GSK Greece on the awareness campaign for lifelong vaccination<\/b> was attended today by Minister of Health<\/b> Adonis Georgiadis <\/strong>and the Deputy Minister of Health, Eirini Agapidaki<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The decisive importance of vaccination for public health, the need to combat misinformation with the weapon of science, as well as the State’s firm support for prevention and vaccination policies, was mentioned by Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Health Minister highlighted the high return on investment in vaccination, noting<\/b>:<\/p>\n

“The truth is that if any area of public health is worth spending money on, and the money you spend actually returns to the system more than multiplied, it is certainly vaccination. I think vaccines have changed humanity, and I can confidently say as a historical scientist that, far from all the discoveries of medical science, what has contributed to the increase in the average age of people by a huge margin is the discovery of vaccines.”<\/p>\n

Referring to the challenges of the pandemic period and the need to strengthen people’s confidence in science, he said<\/b>:<\/p>\n

“…We need to move beyond the divisiveness caused by the pandemic and mandatory vaccinations. Fortunately, our society quickly “digested” this period of division, which had political characteristics, social characteristics, cultural characteristics, had the internet media, and the conspiracy theory, which is huge. To nonsense, conspiracy and stupidity we have to respond with science.”<\/p>\n

At the same time, he made special reference to the increased budget for vaccines and the Prime Minister’s support for prevention policies<\/b>:<\/p>\n

“I tell you this with certainty, because the Prime Minister himself is a man who understands the value of vaccinations – that’s why we have this big budget, around 215 million. For Greece, for the financial pressure we have, it is a very brave decision to put a big budget for vaccines – and I tell you we will put more. Because we really believe it saves lives and takes costs out of the system in the future.”<\/p>\n

Finally, the health minister underlined the government’s firm commitment to supporting initiatives that promote public health and innovation. He stressed the importance of strategic partnerships between the public and private sectors, noting that open communication is the foundation for achieving common goals for the benefit of citizens.<\/p>\n

During her remarks, Deputy Minister of Health, Irene Agapidaki <\/strong>underlined that prevention is a central pillar of the Ministry of Health’s policy, noting that in recent years significant steps have been taken in the field of vaccination through the National Vaccination Registry and the use of digital tools.<\/p>\n

As he said, “for the first time in our country we have the possibility to have official and reliable data on the vaccination coverage of the population, which allows the design of more targeted public health policies.” Ms Agapidaki stressed that access to vaccination is a matter of equality and noted that Greece has one of the most comprehensive vaccination programmes for children and adults.<\/p>\n

She made special reference to vaccination against shingles<\/b>, as well as to the contribution of Mobile Health Teams in increasing vaccination coverage, especially in populations facing difficulties in accessing health services.<\/p>\n

“Mobile Health Teams are an important tool for prevention and equal access to health. There are currently 183 medical teams operating with more than 1,000 staff across the country, enabling us to reach the citizen before the problem occurs,” she said.<\/p>\n

The Deputy Minister of Health also stressed the importance of informing and strengthening citizens’ confidence in the health system, noting that misinformation remains a major challenge.<\/p>\n

Referring to the adult vaccination coverage figures, she noted that in 2025 about 2.4 million citizens were vaccinated, while for the period 2025-2026 an increase of about 230,000 vaccinations is already recorded. At the same time, she pointed out the significant progress made in influenza vaccination.<\/p>\n

Closing her statement, Ms Agapidaki appealed to families to proceed with the vaccination of children against HPV. “Our country has the opportunity to win a very big bet.
