Like Yanis Varoufakis, who… struck again and apparently got another year’s worth of glory from the “proud negotiation” of the first half of 2015 that brought the country to the brink.

The former finance minister and memorable “asset” of Alexis Tsipras in that first Syrrizanel government stated in an interview with Banking News that banks are nothing but “parasites” and that is precisely why, according to him, they should be driven into bankruptcy.

He even personally attacked the central banker, Giannis Stournaras, once again, calling him, among other things, a “perjurer” and predicting that soon, based on his own estimates, there will be a liquidity problem because €11 billion of deposits will leave Greek banks.

The head of MERA25 did not, however, explain why this was the case, but attempted to analyse what his plan is in case his dream of bankrupting the banks is fulfilled – something that almost happened during his tenure at the finance ministry in 2015, of course, and was probably no accident, judging at least in retrospect by his statements today.

He specifically proposed the introduction of a digital payment system outside the banking system, which would allow citizens – according to him – to be paid, like businesses, without necessarily having a bank account. A step ahead of the famous IOUs with which he proposed in 2015 to pay public sector salaries and pensions in the event of bankruptcy and return to the drachma

The statements of Mr. Varoufakis’ statements might not have had any significance if they were not made almost simultaneously with those of his political boss in 2015, who is now “cooking” his return with a new party to the domestic political scene. This is none other than Mr Tsipras, who recently took it in turn to say that he should have made the decision to close the banks earlier than he did on the eve of the referendum in the summer of 2015.

At the same time, showing that the word “banks” gives him something of an … allergy, the former prime minister continues to claim against reality that banks, allegedly, do not pay taxes or that they have almost doubled their revenues in the last year from commissions, ignoring the government’s legislative and other interventions on this issue.

Tsipras’ other claim about imposing an “extraordinary levy” on the profits of banks and big business groups can only be described as a firework, with the clear aim of supposedly convincing citizens in the middle of the election period.

Another firework that basically shows complete ignorance of the way in which banks operate and contribute to the Greek economy, just to caress ears and sound pleasant to the electorate. It is, moreover, not surprising that this is not the case, nor that Mr Tsipras does not remember that he closed the banks together with Mr Varoufakis.

It is, however, surprising and clearly related to the “battle for second place” that Mr. Tsipras remembered the banks after Nikos Androulakis had remembered them and the PASOK president met with the heads of the four systemic banks so that he could at least understand what the truth is, based on the data presented to him during the meeting by the bankers…

A new attack by the former finance minister of the SYRIZANEL government, Yanis Varoufakis, on financial institutions, which he called …

[3

post-5451","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-politics
["GET
