At Belgrade airport, the official ceremony of receiving seven iconic relics from the Holy Monastery of Hilandar on Mount Athos took place. Among the objects that arrived in Belgrade, the rare 12th century mosaic icon of the Virgin Mary Hodegetria, as well as the 13th century icons of Christ Pantocrator and Virgin Mary Hodegetria, the 17th century icon of Saints Sava and Simeon, and the 17th century icon of St. Of particular historical importance is the manuscript scroll of 1199, with the Typikon of the Karyes of St. Sava. Also included are a copy of the sceptre of Emperor Alexius III Angelus and a copy of the staff of St. Sava.

“I feel a great honour and blessing to be present today at the reception of these priceless relics in Belgrade. The relations between Greece and Serbia have been friendly throughout time, forged with strong historical and cultural ties, with Orthodoxy as a common foundation. The figure of Saint Sava is decisive for the Church of Serbia and important for Orthodox Christians everywhere,” Culture Minister Lina Mendoni said after the ceremony of handing over the relics.

The exhibition entitled “Saint Sava” is hosted in the gallery of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, in Belgrade, and is a station of spiritual reflection on the occasion of the 850th anniversary of the Saint’s birth. It is a multidimensional approach to the iconic personality of the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church, who as a teacher, legislator, diplomat and founder, established the cultural and national identity of the Serbian people. The event highlights the deep historical interconnection between Greece and Serbia, focusing on the Monastery of Hilandarion on Mount Athos. The seven works from Mount Athos are accompanied by numerous exhibits from museums and ecclesiastical institutions in Serbia, Russia, Croatia, the Czech Republic and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The participation of so many international institutions underlines the universal appeal of St. Sava and turns the exhibition into a bridge of cultural diplomacy and trust.

The Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni met in Belgrade with the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, with whom she discussed issues related to the …

[3

post-5487","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-politics
["GET
