In the context of his visit to Agathonisi, he referred both to the strengthening of the military presence<\/b> and infrastructure <b>on the islands<\/b> and the need to deter &#8220;revisionist aspirations&#8221; in the region,<\/b> sending a clear message to Turkey and to any direction that challenges the status quo in the Aegean<\/b>. At the same time, he took a stand on <b>the serious incident with the Ukrainian drone in Lefkada<\/b>, stressing the <b>risks to navigation and the need for international transparency and explanations<\/b>, reinforcing the narrative of <b>Greece as a power that combines deterrence and commitment to the diplomatic route<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Message of <b>stability and determination<\/b> was sent today (14\/5)<\/b> by <b>National Defence Minister Nikos Dendias<\/b> from the outlying <b>Agathonisi<\/b>.<\/p>\n<h3>Greece seeks stability<\/h3>\n<p>The Minister of National Defence inaugurated new military residences as part of a programme that provides for 17,000 residences across the country, with priority given to Evros and the islands.<\/p>\n<p>Dendias stressed that &#8220;all Greek islands, regardless of their size, have the rights provided for by international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea&#8221;. He noted that Greece seeks stability and good neighbourly relations, but &#8220;will not accept revisionist approaches that attempt to question the obvious.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, he referred to the incident with the Ukrainian drone detected in Lefkada, describing the issue as &#8220;particularly serious&#8221; and noting that he is awaiting the explanations that the Ukrainian Defence Minister has pledged to provide. &#8220;The drone carried explosives and endangered navigation. One need not imagine what a collision with a passenger or merchant ship would mean,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The minister stressed that Greece would continue to strengthen its deterrent capability while remaining firmly committed to international law and the diplomatic route.<\/p>\n<p>The defense minister stressed that Greece faces &#8220;revisionist aspirations&#8221; which he said have intensified recently &#8220;by invoking non-existent rights.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>The statement by Nikos Dendias:<br \/><\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;We Greeks are facing and we know it, revisionist aspirations which have been escalating lately with the invocation of non-existent rights.<br \/>From here, from Agathonisi, I want to remind once again that all our islands have exactly these rights. Neither more nor less than what is provided for in the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.<br \/>I will look forward with particular interest to the explanations to which the Defence Minister of Ukraine has committed himself.<br \/>This issue is extremely serious. This vessel was a vessel which had explosives which endangered the safety of navigation.
