{"id":5556,"date":"2026-05-14T19:37:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T16:37:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=5556"},"modified":"2026-05-14T19:37:00","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T16:37:00","slug":"nikos-christodoulides-greece-our-most-consistent-and-selfless-ally-no-to-a-two-state-solution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.tomanifesto.gr\/?p=5556","title":{"rendered":"Nikos Christodoulides: Greece our most consistent and selfless ally &#8211; No to a two-state solution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <b>President of the Cypriot Republic, Nikos Christodoulides<\/b>, addressed the plenary session of the <b>Parliament<\/b> of the Hellenes.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Christodoulides was in Athens at the <b>official invitation of the Speaker of the Parliament, Nikitas Kaklamanis<\/b>, in a move with strong political and historical symbolism for relations between Greece and Cyprus.<\/p>\n<p>The Cypriot President began by stressing the <b>importance of cooperation between Greece and Cyprus<\/b>, particularly in a tense geopolitical climate, stating that: &#8220;<b>Greece, which remains our most consistent and selfless ally<\/b>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In his speech, the Cypriot president referred at length to the <b>historical ties between Cyprus and Greece<\/b>, paying tribute to the Greeks and Cypriots who sacrificed their lives in national struggles, particularly during the Turkish invasion of 1974.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<b>We pay tribute to the heroic Greek officers, soldiers and civilians who shouted a thunderous &#8220;present&#8221; and sacrificed everything they had to prevent Turkey&#8217;s dichotomous plans<\/b>,&#8221; he said, adding that <b>Turkey continues to &#8220;encroach on 37% of the territory of the Republic of Cyprus&#8221;<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Christodoulides<\/b> particularly focused on the issue of the <b>missing persons<\/b>, noting that &#8220;<b>we will never rest until the fate of the last missing person of the Cyprus Tragedy<\/b> is determined.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, he referred to &#8220;one of the biggest crimes in the post-war history of Europe<\/b>&#8220;, arguing that <b>Turkey has been violating international and European law<\/b> for 52 years through its <b>continuing occupation<\/b>, colonisation and violation of fundamental human rights in Cyprus.<\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed_media\" data-emebed-provider=\"YouTube\">\n<div class=\"dp-youtube-video dp-embed-video\" data-embed=\"qUA5j08mXTk\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qUA5j08mXTk?feature=oembed\">\n<div class=\"play-button\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The President of the Republic reiterated that Nicosia&#8217;s strategic goal remains the resumption of talks for the settlement of the Cyprus problem on the basis of the United Nations resolutions and the principles of the European Union<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I would like to take this historic step, in the most formal way, to stress that for us, <b>a two-state solution does NOT exist even as a thought.
