Meetings between the Greece and Turkey delegations under the Trust-Building Measures (CBMs)<\/b><\/p>\n

The two sides reportedly seek to maintain open channels of communication<\/b>. However, the process is hampered by Ankara’s escalating rhetoric and practice, such as the threat to legislate the “Blue Homeland”, harassment of the “Ocean Link” ship laying a cable in international territorial waters between Astypalaia and Kos, the “indefinite duration” NAVTEX in the Aegean Sea, etc. <\/b><\/p>\n

On 12 and 13 May,<\/b> the commander of the 3rd Mechanized Brigade (3rd M\/K TAXI) “RIMINI”, Brigadier General Nikolaos Angelis<\/b>, visited Andrianople, where he met with the commander of the 9th Border Brigade, Brigadier General Bulent Baris Sharpe.<\/b><\/p>\n

Brigadier General Angelis’ visit to the neighbouring country was in return for the one the Turkish delegation paid to the headquarters of the 3rd M\/K Battalion in Kavuli, Evros, on 6-7 May 2025.<\/p>\n

The latest round of MOUs took place in mid-February last year between delegations of the Greek and Turkish navies, in Athens, led by Commodore Nectarios Gogos PN<\/b> (Director of the First Branch of the General Staff) and Major Admiral Giocsen Firat<\/b> (Director of Defence Planning and Project Management) respectively. And the following month the sixth Greece-Turkey High Cooperation Council (HCC) was held in Ankara.<\/p>\n

The MOU is one of the three pillars of the bilateral rapprochement agreed by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Vilnius, Lithuania in July 2023.<\/p>\n

The other two are the Political Dialogue<\/b> which is “run” by Deputy Foreign Minister, Ambassador Alexandra Papadopoulou<\/b>, and the “Positive Agenda” which falls under the responsibility of Deputy Foreign Minister, Charis Theocharis<\/b>. The last round of meetings under these channels took place last January in Athens. <\/p>\n

Recall that the MEAs were frozen for almost four years at Turkey’s fault and restarted again in November 2023. In this format, the two countries are discussing over the list they drew up in 2010, which ranges from issues of high military importance to low-policy measures such as exchanges of military visits.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
