He accused the opposition leader of having deliberately chosen personal targeting of the prime minister and the Mitsotakis family, turning the political debate into “an endless judicial debate” with heavy-handed characterizations and attacks on political opponents and judicial officials.

Asked to comment on a publication about the property signed “Katakouzenos“, which Nikos Androulakis denounced as a “muff journalist” in an alleged operation of political assassination, Pavlos Marinakis said: “First of all, I know a Katakouzenos, Konstantinos Katakouzenos, because we are also on ANT1, a legendary series by Haris Roma, “Konstantinos and Eleni”, which in one episode, while the series was breaking up, had “Komma Vyzan”. It was the party of Constantine Katakouzenos. If PASOK continues with these answers, the fate of the “Byzantine Party” will be theirs.”

Referring to the issue of Nikos Androulakis’ behind-the-back, the government spokesman claimed that the government was not raising a criminal issue, but a “moral issue”, noting that Mr. Androulakis cited an accountant’s error for not declaring data that, he said, in previous years had been properly declared.

At the same time, he particularly focused on the fact that the PASOK president had – according to him – kept money abroad, while criticising the Greek banking system and calling for greater taxation of banks in Greece. “What goes out can come in,” he commented meaningfully.

Pavlos Marinakis even linked the case to previous PASOK parliamentary initiatives, arguing that Harilaou Trikoupis applies two measures and two weights in similar cases. “We are neither judges nor prosecutors,” he stressed, clarifying that the government is not going to assign criminal responsibility, but is “putting the moral dimension of a man who follows this rhetoric,” he said.

The government must produce work

He noted that New Democracy did not win in 2019 and 2023 because it prevailed over the second party in each case, but because it secured the trust of citizens. “If we believe that we will win because we will be better than a former prime minister who lost again and again or because we will outperform PASOK, then we are deeply mistaken, he said of Alexis Tsipras. He stressed that the government must continue to produce work and present a convincing programme to citizens. “We will win the trust of the citizens if we have deliverables, present them in a humble way and present a programme that people will vote for,” he said, also on the occasion of the opening of the 16th congress of the Southwestern Democratic Party.

Protection of unsigned journalism

Mr. Marinakis also referred to the issue of publications signed under a pseudonym, noting that the government has already taken initiatives to protect autograph journalism.

“Following the Prime Minister’s directive to protect autograph journalism, in the previous bill I brought to Parliament we proposed and passed the obligation for the media to have as many autographed articles as possible,” he said. At the same time, he explained that a media outlet is allowed to publish articles either autographed or unsigned or even under a pseudonym. “I don’t know if this journalist exists or not, I hasten to say. It is neither my nor the state’s responsibility to answer whether someone is a member of the ESIEA or any other association,” he said.

The government spokesman also stressed that the legal framework provides for specific protection procedures for anyone who believes that he is defamed or insulted by a publication, even if it is unsigned or signed under a pseudonym. “There are very specific provisions, both in civil and criminal proceedings. They certainly know these in the PASOK. They just throw the ball on the podium and talk about other things than what they are asked about,” he commented.

They should leave the “soul” of New Democracy alone

“I think that those who, when they don’t like something in New Democracy, go to other parties should leave the “soul” of New Democracy alone,” the government spokesman said at another point. “For the ‘soul’ of New Democracy, the only ones who have the right to speak – the only ones – are those who have never left New Democracy and especially the anonymous fighters, who with their taxes, their contributions, their work, the scraps of all of them, decided to fight for their ideas, where everyone believes that they belong. So those who can speak of the “soul” of New Democracy are those who never expected anything, who came to conferences, to speeches, “ate bitterly”, at times were afraid to say what they believe but did not give up, in difficult years when money was once flowing, the 1980s, and some remained faithful. And because we have the Congress today, it is for them that we go to the Congress today. With the Prime Minister first, we are going to the Congress today for them,” he said.

On the foreign policy and Greek-Turkish front, the government spokesman categorically rejected allegations of “greying” the Aegean. Responding to statements by MEP Nikolas Farantouris, he stressed that no unilateral action by Turkey produces legal effects in international law. He argued that the government has substantially strengthened the country’s position through specific acts, such as the maritime spatial planning, the EEZ agreements with Italy and Egypt, and the extension of the territorial waters in the Ionian Sea to 12 nautical miles.

Defence Strengthening

He also referred to the strengthening of defence, noting the acquisition of Dassault Rafale fighters, Belharra frigates and the prospect of acquiring F-35 Lightning II. He argued that Greece today is “stronger than ever” in a period of geopolitical crises, while he accused some politicians and media of scaremongering and “over-patriotism”. Referring to the Turkish casus belli, he noted that the first prime minister to openly raise the issue of lifting it was Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

As for the political scene and the scenarios of creating new parties, the government spokesman commented that New Democracy is not affected by personal moves. Regarding former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, he said that it will be seen in practice whether he will go ahead with the creation of a party and what the election result will be. He stressed, however, that citizens ultimately evaluate political and not personal agendas.

National elections in 2027

Referring to the possible political move of Maria Karystianou, he said he was separating the mother who experienced a personal tragedy from the political person who is now being judged in public. She even recalled that in an earlier interview she had ruled out the possibility of forming a party, stressing that “the credibility of what we say is very important.”

The government spokesman reiterated that the next national elections will be held in 2027, as the prime minister has stated. On the economy, he left open the possibility of new interventions at the Thessaloniki International Fair, but emphasized tax cuts rather than the reintroduction of the 13th salary or 13th pension. He argued that the government, by reducing taxes and increasing revenues at the same time, would be able to return resources to society, especially to the middle class and small and medium-sized enterprises. He acknowledged, however, that the cost of living remains the most important problem for households.

In conclusion, Marinakis argued thatthe government has achieved three main goals in its seven years in power: strengthening the country’s international position, strong economic growth and launching reforms that were considered “taboo” for years, such as non-state universities and the digital state. As he said, “it is policies and deliverables that respond to the needs of citizens” rather than personal strategies or person-centric political moves.

A response to the new attack by Nikos Androulakis against the government, who referred to the “media parastate of New Democracy”, gave …

[3

post-5650","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-politics
["GET
