A clear message on the security of the Greek borders<\/b> and the strategic importance of the Evros Delta National Park<\/b> was sent by President of Greece Constantine Tasoulas<\/b> during his visit to the border region, where he conducted a tour in a military boat<\/b> at the mouth of the Evros River. The President of the Republic was informed about the geopolitical and ecological value of the protected wetland<\/b>, one of the most important biotopes of Europe<\/b>, while he praised the role of the Armed Forces, the Greek Police and the residents who contribute daily to the surveillance and protection of the area<\/b>. Against the backdrop of the sensitive point of the Greek-Turkish border<\/b>, Mr Tasoulas stressed that the State remains constantly alert<\/b>, bringing back to the public debate the events of Evros in 2020 and the importance of national preparedness<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The President of the Republic was received by the Commander of the Supreme Military Command of Thrace, Lieutenant General Panagiotis Kavidopoulos, the Commander of the XII Mechanized Infantry Division “Evros”, Major General Pavlos Andrikopulos, the Commander of the 31st Mechanized Brigade, Brigadier General Sotiris Tsiatsianis, the General Police Director of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Brigadier General Lambros Tsiaras, as well as the President of the “Aenecio Delta” Association, Nikos Mousounakis.<\/p>\n
During his visit, Mr Tasoulas was informed about the importance of the protected ecosystem of the Evros Delta, which is one of the most important wetlands and biotopes in Europe, hosting rare species of flora and fauna.<\/p>\n
Afterwards, he made the following statement. Admiration for the unparalleled beauty of nature, of this unique, priceless wetland.<\/p>\n
But also admiration for the dynamism of our borderers. All those charged with protecting our borders. The Greek Army, the Greek Police, but also the private individuals who fish in the Evros Delta, have their eyes open every day to protect this priceless area.<\/p>\n
We, as a State, are determined to preserve this ecological treasure, which, at the same time, is the border of our country “to the East”. And this boundary of our country “to the East”, towards Turkey, there is no way it can escape our attention, our interest, our surveillance.<\/p>\n
The Greek border is in good hands. And no one, but no one, can challenge them. We proved it in the February-March 20 crisis. And we are confident that the next time it is needed, we will prove it just as effectively.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
