O Dimitris Avramopoulos<\/strong> sent a clear message in favour of institutional credibility<\/strong>, political self-awareness<\/strong> and the need to reconnect New Democracy with society, during his address at the 16th Conference.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

The former minister and MP developed his speech around three main pillars: The need for criticism and restoration of trust in the institutions<\/strong>, the strategy of re-engaging citizens who have drifted away from the party and the role of the Southwest as a force for stability and European course<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

Emphasis on transparency, meritocracy and the rule of law <\/h2>\n

A key point of his intervention was the need to restore the relationship of trust between citizens and the political system. Dimitris Avramopoulos<\/strong> stressed the importance of transparency<\/strong>, of dignity<\/strong>, the distinction of powers<\/strong> and the strengthening of the rule of law<\/strong>, while noting that there had been “mistakes and failures<\/strong>” during the government’s term of office. <\/p>\n

He also made a special reference to Kyriakos Mitsotakis<\/strong>‘s position from the previous day, noting that admitting mistakes does not constitute political weakness but an act of responsibility and institutional maturity. <\/p>\n

At the same time, the former minister sent the message that the government has understood that there were issues that shook the trust of society, stressing that substantial corrective actions are required without logical compensations. <\/p>\n

Dimitris Avramopoulos: Message of reconnection with society<\/h2>\n

In the political part of his speech, Dimitris Avramopoulos<\/strong> said that the New Democracy<\/strong> has the potential to re-engage with citizens who have distanced themselves from the party in recent years and to turn back into their “political home<\/strong>“. <\/p>\n

He also took a swipe at populism<\/strong> and practices based on “cultivating fear and insecurity”, insisting that the country needs political stability and seriousness in the face of major international challenges. <\/p>\n

The reference to foreign policy and support for Mitsotakis<\/h2>\n

In the field of foreign policy<\/strong>, the former commissioner took the line of a more active and dynamic Greece, with a strategic presence in Europe<\/strong>, Baltic<\/strong> and Eastern Mediterranean<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

Concluding his speech, Dimitris Avramopoulos described the New Democracy<\/strong> as a “great European, liberal and patriotic party<\/strong>“, which is a guarantee of stability and perspective for the country. <\/p>\n

In fact, he closed with a personal note of support for Kyriakos Mitsotakis<\/strong>, stating that he will be a “soldier on the front line<\/strong>“, while expressing his certainty of a victory for ND in the next national elections. <\/p>\n
