For a new clear mandate and Kyriakos Mitsotakis as Prime Minister again! For the Greece of 2030!“, Orpheus Georgiou concluded.

The entire speech of the President of ONNED, Orpheus Georgiou

Dear President of the Organizing Committee,

Members of the Organizing Committee,

Friends and friends,

New Democrats and New Democrats,

United Nations Women and United Nations Citizens,

DAPWomen and DAPites,

The strength of New Democracy is not measured in electoral victories or percentages. It is found in the struggles, in the difficult moments and in the successes of a great, liberal, centre-right Party that has stood the test of time because it has relied on its people. In people who gave time, effort, faith and often their very soul to keep its values and ideas alive.

A long history of fifteen New Democracy Congresses, which were associated with critical moments of responsibility, decisions and contribution for the country, is now joined by the 16th Congress, which is taking place at a particularly critical juncture, full of challenges and great potential for the future of Greece and the new generation.

The 16th Congress is taking place at a particularly critical juncture, full of challenges and great potential for the future of Greece and the new generation. If there is one thing we should take away from the country’s journey in recent years, with New Democracy in government and Kyriakos Mitsotakis as Prime Minister, it is that the stability that Greece is experiencing today is neither given nor self-evident. It is a daily battle of responsibility. It is the result of seriousness, planning and political consistency.

It is easy to denounce, to invest in anger, toxicity and division. The difficult thing was that Greece, in just a few years, managed to move from uncertainty to growth. From doubt to credibility. From the image of a country that follows developments to a country that claims a leading role in Europe. With fiscal stability. With an economy that creates new jobs. With tax and contribution reductions. With a digital state that changes the everyday life of citizens. With a strong international presence. With reforms that for years everyone talked about but no one dared to implement.

We know well that there are still problems. There are injustices. There are difficulties faced by young people, workers, families, small and medium-sized enterprises. But there is a big difference. We do not sweep the problems under the carpet. We do not instrumentalise them. We don’t build political careers on anger and catastrophism. And this is something that the opposition today is unable not only to challenge but even to address politically. That is why, when the time comes to be judged by the citizens, we are sure that the Greece of 2027 will not choose the one who shouts the loudest. But the one who holds the country upright and moves it forward. And the truth is one. New Democracy has proven that it can do it.

And here lies the great responsibility of our generation. Our role as governing youth is twofold: to communicate the work and vision of the government, but also to convey to it the needs and anxieties of young people. We serve the first role on a daily basis, culminating in the “Is it or isn’t it important?” campaign, which combines short content, digital culture and humour, exceeding half a million views in total.

Today, however, I want to focus mainly on our second role. In the past months, utilizing the most diverse body of the UNNED, the Central Committee, we proceeded to create working groups and through constant consultation we came up with an ambitious proposal. The National Youth Portal. A holistic project that we aim to be part of the New Democracy’s programme for 2027-2031. The National Youth Portal is a proposal for a modern platform, integrated in gov.gr, with the labour market as its central axis.

We want to create a fairer and more transparent environment, where:

A new employee will know in advance key information about a job, such as the salary range, and will be able to create a reliable, personalised profile, while the employer will have free access to tools and cross-check information (e.g. degrees, experience) through an interface, without the need for expensive mediation.

So, for SMEs, which are the backbone of the Greek economy, this means access to a modern pool of candidates in terms of equality and transparency. Moreover, we believe that, in the long run, competitiveness and transparency will also contribute to improving wages. At the same time, the platform will gather informative sections on funding programmes of the DYPA or NSRF, undergraduate or postgraduate curricula, as well as on technical education specialisations, scholarships, career guidance, soft skills and proper CV creation.

Today, we present the second draft of the proposal. In a few minutes, a QR code with a short presentation, a technical report and a proposal submission form will be posted on ONNED’s social media, while the consultation period is until the next Central Committee meeting, where the final draft will be formed. Technical discussions with the relevant ministries will follow and if the proposal is voted on at the September Central Committee, it will be submitted to the leadership of New Democracy. I may have gone into a lot of detail, but I want to get a clear message across: ONNED, like New Democracy, has learned to tackle the big issues with a plan, consultation and quality work, putting its own stones for a better everyday life for the new generation.

Friends and friends,

In our preconference in Thessaloniki, I said that before the Congress and before the national elections of 2027, we have another major milestone. The student elections and that the GAP-NDFK will emerge dominant again within the Universities. And today we can proudly say that, for the 39th consecutive year, we have kept our promise. I really want to congratulate all the children of GAP-NDFK in every corner of Greece. Because they proved that when you stand up for clear ideas, when you speak with arguments and not with slogans, then our ideas are justified. Again and again, even if some of them take time. This victory is not only for the Universities. It is a message for Tomorrow.

It is proof that the new generation is not looking for a return to the chaos, the pugnacity and the illusions of the past. It is looking for perspective, results and stability with development.

New Democrats,

Our Party has always won when it was united, grounded in society and oriented towards the real problems of citizens. And I am confident that this is what we will do again in the battles ahead of us. For a new clear mandate and Kyriakos Mitsotakis as Prime Minister again!
