The Minister of Civil Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis<\/b>, speaking at the 16th Conference of ND <\/b> and taking stock of his work<\/b>, he said that security <\/b>is becoming more and more widespread every day. <\/p>\n
“And that is the difficult challenge<\/b> that we have set. And I want to tell you something that I’ve noticed in the last few months through the measurements<\/b> that we’re doing, the index<\/b> of satisfaction with local<\/b>policing <\/b>is going up in cities, in rural areas, all over the country. This means that all the efforts made to consolidate safety are paying off<\/b>,” he added.<\/p>\n
“We have in 2025<\/b> a horizontal reduction of crime<\/b> of 25<\/b>%,” he said: “We put against the mafias, the criminal groups. <\/b>We have turned against the brothers<\/b>. We put against all those who thought that they could really attack the institutions, the economic order and competition in the country. And a team, a large team of 1,200 police officers<\/b> is fighting every day and has so far dismantled 200 criminal<\/b> groups.”<\/p>\n
As for the alcohol tests<\/b> being conducted and the success of the measure<\/b>, he said that every weekend 55,000<\/b> alcohol tests<\/b> are conducted across the country. “And there is something amazing that shows the value of politics. A year or so ago, the percentage over the limit during tests<\/b> was 5-8%<\/b>. Today the percentage of those over the legal limit is now 0.7-0.8%.<\/b> Thousands of our citizens are not driving under the alcohol<\/b> limit. Thousands of our fellow citizens are forming a new lifestyle. This is a success of the policy,” he pointed out.<\/p>\n
Also, the Minister of Civil Protection said that through an effort made with the cooperation<\/b> of several ministries, with the coordination of the presidency<\/b>, violence in stadiums<\/b> has been zeroed out.<\/p>\n
“We had negated<\/b> the invasions<\/b> in universities<\/b>. There is not a single occupation. We have minimized all those forms of conflict<\/b> that existed within the universities<\/b>. And what we saw the day before yesterday is nothing but some internal conflicts related to the elections,” he stressed.<\/p>\n
“So this is the job we are doing, this is the mission to which the Hellenic Police personnel have dedicated themselves.<\/b> And today it has really achieved unprecedented results, which, however, in order to maintain them, we need daily struggle, we need a plan and strategy, we need patience and perseverance and, above all, we need faith<\/b> in the duty of the police officers, who carry out this great work<\/b>,” he added.<\/p>\n
“That is why the Government<\/b> of the New Democracy,<\/b> the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis,<\/b> has announced<\/b> a series of very important measures to support the income<\/b> of police officers<\/b>, established for the first time and a historic decision to recognize the dangerous nature of the police profession and finally I think for the first time in many years, perhaps after 20 plus years<\/b>, there is such a generous boost to the incomes, but at the same time the recognition of police officers for such a difficult but important social profession<\/b> to which they have dedicated themselves.” <\/p>\n
