The Minister of Immigration and Asylum Thanos Plevris <\/b>in his speech at the 16th conference of ND<\/b>, gave a strong ideological stamp by linking the political dominance of the party to the principles of security<\/b>, national identity<\/b> and protection<\/b> of the borders. <\/p>\n
He stressed that after the period of memoranda <\/b>NWD had managed not only to survive politically<\/b> but also to return stronger to power because, he said, it maintained a deep value relationship with its social base.<\/p>\n
He said that the ND’s<\/b> relationship with its voters is based on the principles of “the nation<\/b>, religion<\/b> and the family<\/b>“, unlike PASOK <\/b>and the Left <\/b>who, he said, built their own relationship solely on prosperity. “When the party <\/b>gives them the vote<\/b> and when it doesn’t collapse<\/b>,” he said.<\/p>\n
Mr. Plevris particularly focused on the issue of security<\/b> and immigration<\/b>, noting that New Democracy<\/b> has always been interested in “protected borders, a strong homeland and controlled immigration<\/b>“. He stressed that illegal<\/b>immigration<\/b> “cannot be a solution to any problem<\/b> because it is the problem<\/b> itself”.<\/p>\n
Referring to Europe<\/b>, he said the problem is not just moving populations<\/b> but “a hard-core Islam<\/b> coming aggressively into Europe,” adding that Europe must be protected. At the same time, he rejected the logic that the demographic problem can be solved through immigration<\/b>, stressing that “the demographic problem<\/b> is a national problem<\/b> and not a numerical one”.<\/p>\n
Thanos Plevris <\/b>also said that the government’s<\/b> goal is to create the conditions<\/b> for more Greeks<\/b> to be born through incentives and policies supporting the family.<\/b><\/p>\n
Closing his speech, the Minister of Immigration<\/b> and Asylum<\/b> said he is a “right-wing politician”<\/b> and responded to those who – he said – accuse<\/b> New Democracy of ideological discounts<\/b>. He argued that the country had never before had “a tougher immigration policy, a tougher security policy<\/b> and a better equipped country” than today under the government<\/b> of Kyriakos Mitsotakis.<\/b><\/p>\n
At the same time, he challenged those who identify themselves as more right-wing outside the New Democracy<\/b> to open a public debate<\/b> on the issues of security, immigration<\/b> policy and defense<\/b>, saying that New Democracy maintains “its basic axiomatic code<\/b>, the code of the gay party<\/b>.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
