With references to historical memory, national unity and contemporary geopolitical challenges<\/b>, Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias<\/b> sent from Corfu a clear message of determination for the protection of Greece<\/b>, in the context of the events<\/b> for the 162nd anniversary of the Union of the Ionian Islands with the motherland<\/b>. In the presence of the President of the Republic Konstantinos Tasoulas and against the backdrop of the impressive demonstration of the F-16 ZEUS<\/b>, the Minister stressed that the history of the Ionian Islands<\/b> is a constant reminder of the duty of today’s Greeks to safeguard national security<\/b>, the rights of the country and stability in the face of any threat<\/b>.<\/p>\n
“What memory always teaches us is what we, today’s Greeks<\/b>, owe. That is, the effort to keep the homeland intact and its sovereignty and sovereign rights<\/b>, as the Constitution<\/b> defines us, regardless of any attacks<\/b>.”<\/p>\n<\/p>\nMessage<\/h3>\n
This is the message of Defence Minister Nikos Dendias from Corfu where he represented the government at the anniversary celebrations of the Union of the Ionian Islands with Greece.<\/p>\n
Defence Minister Nikos Dendias said it is a pleasure and an honour for him to represent the government in his hometown of Corfu, while he attended the demonstration of the F-16 ZEUS F-16 along with the President of the Republic Konstantinos Tasoulas.<\/p>\n
Specifically, the Defence Minister said: “It is a great pleasure and a great honour for me to be here today, in my hometown of Corfu, to celebrate together the one hundred and sixty-second anniversary of the Union of the Ionian Islands with Mother Greece.<\/p>\n
It is the day on which we celebrate the decision of the Ionian People, because there was a referendum even if it is not known, to divorce from Great Britain and to join the small poor Kingdom of Greece, the motherland of the time.<\/p>\n
The Ionian people from then on, participated in the national struggles, spilled rivers of blood. To recall Lorenzo Mavili, killed fighting in the mountains of Epirus just across the road here, the brilliant officers in the Balkan wars, the Dusmani brothers. Dusmanis was Averoff’s captain along with Kountouriotis. Dousmanis is remembered by few, but also Xenophon General, an excellent officer and also the thousands of dead of the 10th Infantry Regiment, in the struggles of the nation for national integration.<\/p>\n
Today, therefore, we remember and honor the struggles for the Union and in general the struggles of the Ionian people for our homeland. And I think that what the memory always teaches us is what we Greeks of today owe, that is, the effort to keep the homeland intact and its sovereignty and sovereign rights, as the Constitution defines us regardless of any attacks.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
