The Skaramanga Shipyards<\/b>, which has been included in the Strategic Investment Scheme, was visited<\/b> by Minister of Development Takis Theodoricakos<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The Development Minister, accompanied by the Secretary General of Private Investment, Stellina Siarapi, met with the President of Skaramanga Shipyards George Prokopiou and the Managing Director, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis<\/strong>. He toured the facilities and was briefed on the extensive upgrade program underway to make them a strong hub of heavy industry and maritime<\/b> once again.<\/p>\n

The visit focused on the investments being implemented to upgrade critical infrastructure, equipment and operational capabilities of the Shipyards<\/b>. In this context, \u20ac20 million has already been allocated for rehabilitation and modernization works, while a wider investment programme of \u20ac100 million is underway for the full utilization of the facilities in the coming years. As of 2023, 118 ships have been served, while the shipyards currently have the capacity to serve up to 60 ships, of all types, per year.<\/p>\n

Skaramagas Shipyards employs 200 people on a regular basis, while during periods of high activity the total employment, including associated workshops and specialised technicians, can increase significantly, reaching up to 700 people.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Development was informed about the Shipyards’ potential to support projects of high technical requirements, both in the commercial and defence sectors<\/b>. A repair and modernisation project on the submarine “Papanikolis” is already underway at the facilities of Skaramanga, while the infrastructure, tanks and expertise of the Shipyards create conditions for participation in complex shipbuilding, ship repair and defence projects<\/b>.<\/p>\n

“Skaramagka Shipyards have been included in the Strategic Investments of the Ministry of Development and a major upgrade programme is underway. <\/b>After the adventures of the previous years, the shipyards are growing again, the repair bays are being filled, there is a continuous flow of work and this is another positive sign for the industrial reconstruction of our country<\/b>,” said Mr. Theodoricakos<\/b> in a statement after the visit and added:<\/p>\n

“Shipbuilding and ship repair industry are of great interest to us. It is production, know-how, new and well-paid jobs and national power. Greece is a great maritime power and must also have a strong shipbuilding base. Skaramanga Shipyards, with its strategic geographical location, large tanks and heavy industrial infrastructure, is a critical base for the revival of the country’s shipbuilding and ship repair industry.<\/b> We support any serious effort that strengthens Greek industry, creates new jobs and transforms our country’s potential into a real growth prospect.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
