Nearly 2,500 digital citations for road traffic violations<\/b> from cameras on the Attica road network. <\/p>\n
These are the first results from the pilot application, which has been underway since the end of March, as the new Digital Confirmation System for Road Traffic Offences<\/b> has gone live. The new system marks the gradual transition from handwritten to digital citations.<\/p>\n
The new system records, among other things, violations in bus lanes, speeding, red light violations, failure to wear a seat belt and helmet, and use of a mobile phone while driving. According to data from the Hellenic Police<\/b>, 2,453 digital tickets<\/b> have been issued to date, while the objections that have been accepted represent only 2.11% of the total.<\/b><\/p>\n\n

The Digital Confirmation System for Road Traffic Offences is being piloted from the end of March 2026, in the framework of the implementation of the Law. 5256\/2025 and the broader effort to modernize road safety procedures and enhance the operational efficiency of control mechanisms.<\/p>\n
The pilot operation is being implemented in cooperation between the Ministries of Citizen Protection, Digital Governance and Infrastructure and Transport, aiming at the gradual transition from handwritten to digital confirmation of road traffic offences, enhancing transparency, speed of processing and the level of road safety, while at the same time contributing to the saving of valuable police resources.<\/p>\n
The pilot operation is being implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Civil Protection, the Ministry of Digital Governance and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, aiming at the gradual transition from handwritten to digital confirmation of road traffic offences, enhancing transparency, speed of processing and the level of road safety, while at the same time contributing to the saving of valuable police resources.<\/p>\n
The pilot operation is being implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. In particular:<\/p>\n
– by O.SY. A.E., through cameras operating in bus lanes, to record relevant traffic and parking violations; and<\/p>\n
– by the Ministry of Digital Governance, through a pilot network of “smart” cameras, which support the detection of violations such as not wearing a protective helmet, not wearing a seat belt, exceeding the speed limit, violating a red light and using a mobile phone while driving.<\/p>\n

The programme uses modern technological tools with an emphasis on supporting the work of the Traffic Services and improving day-to-day operational functioning.<\/p>\n
The aim of all stakeholders is to create a reliable, functional and fully documented system, which will effectively support the work of the control authorities, while ensuring citizens’ rights, transparency and the absolute legitimacy of the procedures for the confirmation of infringements.<\/p>\n
At the same time, the use of modern technological means aims to reduce road accidents, to strengthen the prevention of dangerous driving behaviour and to improve the overall level of road safety.<\/p>\n
A limited number concerned issues of a technical or procedural nature, such as time mismatch (-17- cases), indistinguishable features (-12- cases) or vehicles for which specific exemptions to the use of seat belts are provided (-3- cases). The remaining objections were accepted after consideration of substantial reasons, such as incidents related to health issues.<\/p>\n
In parallel, the continuous evaluation of the data collected contributes substantially to the formulation of the final operational and technical operating model of the automated control system, with the aim of continuously improving its functionality and efficiency.<\/p>\n
In this context, during the pilot phase, technical and operational data are recorded and evaluated in order to The aim is to further enhance the reliability and quality of the material produced, as well as the full institutional and operational maturation of the system before its wider deployment.<\/p>\n
It is stressed that, technology works in support of the work of police services and does not substitute for operational judgement and human control, which remain crucial to ensure the legitimacy and proper assessment of each incident.<\/p>\n
